I can't stop my hands from ripping!

Do any of you guys have this problem? I rip my hands every time I do more than 20 pull-ups and not only is it super painful and annoying, but I have to nurse them and sub movements if pull-ups come up in any WODS for 5-7 days after!
I've only just started doing kipping pull-ups within the last 4-6 weeks and they are only in sets of 2-3 reps but it's a constant struggle! I've tried the natural grip, fit four gloves, JAW grips, and handmade gymnastic grips. I have yet to try the Rogue leather gymnast grips or the Reebok crossfit gloves. There are a few people in my box who like either, but I'm hesitant to spend more money.
I recently bought a callous shaver and a pumice stone and started to work on my hands a few days a week. They seemed to be getting really good and healthy and then last night during a WOD, my palm ripped and I got a nasty blood blister under the callous that ripped 2 weeks prior.
I'm wondering if maybe I am gripping the bar too hard? Maybe I am gripping the wrong way?
Any tips or tricks out there to help keep my hands from ripping all the time? Or will it just come with time?

You already said that you started working on your hands but once I started following the advice in this article I've only ripped my callouses once (when doing KB swings and snatches without chalk).

For me the answer is usually more chalk. I've read some people recommend rock tape but I'm not sure how that works on your hands to be honest.0 -

I think everyone is different as I don't rip as long as I DON'T use chalk. I will rip everytime with chalk. I also will wear gloves on days with lots of bar work.0

I have also read one that said to use a silicon lube on your hands and chalk over it. It allows your hands to move on the bar and the chalk keeps it from getting to slippery.0

I always kiss my hands/palms "good-bye" when the WOD has bar work . . . As much as its a badge of honor for Crossfitters, to share/post the pics (*we've all done it), finding the solution is an on-going challenge for most people I know.
I've tried everything: Tape, More Chalk; Less Chalk; No Chalk. I've tried the generic work-out gloves, but couldn't "feel" the bar, so I stopped using them. I had purchased the Rogue leather gymnast grips, spent some time breaking them in at home and they have helped a great deal, but my hands are still sore afterwards, but at least there was no tearing. The only problem is that depending on what else is part of the WOD (cleans, squats, etc), the gymnast grips can be a nusance. A friend of mine recently purchased Reebok's CrossFit Gloves and swears by them, but that's extra $$ I don't need to spend now.
Good Luck !!!0 -
I'm definitely glad to know that I am not the only one suffering from this problem. It seems that the men in my gym really like the leather Rogue gymnast grips. The women that I've talked to say that it makes it a lot harder to get a grip on the bar.
I'm hesitant to spend $50 on the Reebok gloves since I've heard so many mixed thinks about them. Though I've already spent more than that with the other things I've tried! I just feel like the friction from my skin on the fabric of the gloves will make them rip regardless. But if anything, I can wear them on lifting days when my hands are shredded.
Thanks for the advice!0 -
i bought the Reebok CF gloves because my hands would get so sore. I eventually stopped using them and instead used the Fit4s because the gloves were just too hard to keep a firm grip on the bar.
as far as how you should be gripping, most people tend to have the top of the bar at the top of their palm/bottom of their fingers. the top of the bar should sit in the very middle of your palm. thumb wrapped around the bar. this won't necessarily fix your problem, but since you mentioned that you werent sure how to grip, i figured i'd address it.
chalk definitely makes you rip faster. try to ween yourself off of it0
