Hello, my friends. Everyone must be super busy if I'm starting the day off, lol. Today looks to be a super hot one in St. Louis today. I'm going to have to come up with an alternate exercise plan since there is no way I'm walking between therapy and the metro station in this humidity. I've got my morning started with a nutritious protein shake and have my bag packed with a nice lunch to eat while I wait on the train to come back home as well as plenty of water. I'm really loving this infused water and am barely drinking Crystal Light drinks at all. I have noticed a real difference without that added imitation sugar. Hope everyone is having a great day!!

HI there,
It's a dreary day here in Wake Forest, NC. We just set up a 15 foot Intex pool (upgraded from the 8 foot version, it's amazing!), and it's been raining so much it hasn't warmed up enough to really enjoy it yet. I like taking a long walk around my neighborhood and then sitting in the pool to cool off. Unfortunately, with this cooler spurt, the water is quite bracing. Pretty strange for the middle of July, lol.
I'm having trouble remembering to check in this thread. What do you guys do to help remember? Is there a way to subscribe to updates? I've read through some back posts and I feel like this is a good fit for me, and I *really* need some accountability so I want to make sure I participate.
I'm currently thinking of joining another DietBet. That seems to help me. More accountability = more motivation for me, although if I don't "stay on schedule" I would find that extremely discouraging and I'm afraid I'll give up. Persistence is my biggest struggle. Still, it's cheaper than weight watchers, so even if I don't make the goal, it's something to work for.
I'm currently dealing with a perception issue that is really quite silly, to be honest, but it's a tough one. I got a new scale. It weighs about 5 pounds more than my old scale. /queue melancholy music/ I have to just suck it up and enter the new, increased weight, even though it's not *really* an increase and am putting it off until I've evened out, but it's just not happening fast enough. I will need to weigh in on my next DietBet in the next day or two, and my start weight will be 5 pounds higher than my finish weight from my last weigh in on my old scale, just yesterday. It's a minor issue, really, but it bugs me to have to "gain 5 pounds" when I didn't *actually* gain 5 pounds, lol.
Looking forward to getting to know you all better. Anyone else use a FitBit?0 -
I would explain the technical issue and get a pic or something to verify, then go back and modify the original numbers. Across the board...for consistency. I use a FitBit though I've been really bad lately, but now that I'm finally on the blood pressure meds, maybe I won't be scared to push on a workout.
Much better off today, though the sleep/dazed lows have been far lower, the normal coherent range is stronger too. Hope this continues, as I've been warned I can feel miserable for 2-6 weeks while things balance out!!
Hugs, Carly in the super warm OK that feels significantly warmer than it is due to all of the out of seasonal norm weather we've had...
P.S. Any of you folks with HBP know if you hold water weight or any other weird weight that will shed once the pressure balances out? I can't for the life of me figure out how I'm losing at the moment. Eating maintenance calories, not tracking much, drinking water, but not enough, not exercising for fear of stroke (I've always turned bright red with any exertion all my life I can remember, but lately, it has been strong enough to really worry people, and combine that with my knowledge of my previous untreated BP, I was SCARED to push anymore... Maybe that will change. Might have to do a stress test and such... Don't know how to set my mind back at ease....I never let anyone tell me what I couldn't do, but my body is sitting me on the sidelines atm...)0 -
Everything checked out so Hubby leaves for CDL school on Sunday afternoon.
We've just been trying to enjoy our together so I haven't been eating well or logging much. We did go on a 4+ hour walk today so maybe that'll undo some of the damage.0 -
Good afternoon all!
The last 6 hours have flown by at work and I totally missed lunch. Meetings really mess things up! So I'm taking a break now to breathe and relax.
I'm telling you all right now so I can be accountable: I am going to walk home, I am going to meet my fiance for dinner, I'm going to go home and get a couple of chores done while my stomach settles, and then I'm going to go to the gym and run.
Normally, I go to the gym immediately after my walk home, but having not eaten yet today, I think that would be very, very stupid. It's just much harder for me to get up and out once I'm already home, but I can do it!0 -
Hi carostad, Any groups you are a apart of should be listed under the Group Forms section in Community. You should be able to subscribe to threads or at least posts you comment on under your notifications settings. We did a thread on this form about scale issues with a link to a good article wich talks about issues with digital scale. The long of it is that you can't worry to much on each weigh in, you and the scale fluctuate so much that what really matters is the long term movement.
KnitOrMiss, Ig your looking for a fitbit friend I'm always happy to have another person on my friends list https://www.fitbit.com/user/2GWYQS
you know what they say about consulting your doctor before starting exercise, it might be a good idea in your case. This journey is meant to help you, not kill you
I have just been working today. Still have more to do and then will go for a walk or a ride later this evening.0 -
Carly, since I don't know the BP med that you started I cannot answer your question with total accuracy. I can tell you that many BP meds generally help to lower a person's pressure by helping the body expel some fluid in addition to helping with blood vessel dilatation.0

I am on BP meds and my BP is very well regulated but I gain water like crazy with sodium. After getting home in this 95 degree heat and humidity and not being able to breathe (almost to the point of wanting to go to hospital) I decided what everyone is telling me is true.. I CAN do this.
Sooo yet again I have set my calorie goal, I am going with the food tracker here and I am going to quit weight watchers.. I think it is having a negative effect on me. I had bought swimsuits to do aqua classes but to my distress they were too small.. I have a new one on its way that should fit and that will help me get moving.
Love and joy to all of you.. this is tough.. but we can find that balance.0 -

What happens if we add 'friends'?? I have a Fitbit Flex (that I am still trying to figure out...may go back to the Fitbit One if I don't!) What does it do adding friends??

Mostly, I like having friends because you can "Cheer" them, and it's a nice way to share encouragement! Other than that, it can be kind of fun to compete with whoever is around your same level of steps. I know that if I see I'm only 1,000 steps behind someone, I'll pace around my apartment to catch up!
On a related note: I followed through! I went to the gym! Went to dinner, came home, didn't do chores because I was sleepy and full (oops), but then I got up and went to the gym and I ran for 40 minutes straight -- 3 minutes longer than my previous longest run0 -
I'm friends with Norah on fitbit so if anyone wants to add me, here is my profile: https://www.fitbit.com/user/2GWYQS
It's fun to see how you and your friends are doing and add a little motivation.0 -
I added Patrick, Dee, and Norah, but here is mine if anyone else wants to add me!! https://www.fitbit.com/user/2GDYDQ
I don't know about the other random MFP strangers I've added, but y'all, in this group, that could help. Random strangers doesn't really motivate me much...people I feel like I know, that works...
Got the all clear from my endocrinologist today. BP was awesome (after 2 days??), but he doesn't have a clear direction from here. Wants me to start Metformin (lowest dose once per day) and some water pill that affects testosterone levels but not electrolytes...to help with acne and such.. (PCOS for anyone who doesn't remember). I'm not insulin resistant per testing, but I'm at the higher end of normal range, so he said it "can't hurt" to try, after listing out some crazy gastro side effects... LOL
The BP med they put me on is Lisinopril, generic for Prinivil. It works by relaxing the blood vessel walls or something from what I remember reading. My horrid reading the other day, after I **know** it was already coming back down was 163/88. And that honestly, isn't the worst I've had. Today, it was 116/68. My former normal was between 110-120/70-75, so this is well near that range. Weight was back up today. Must be water weight playing hide and go seek...
And I go to my GP tomorrow, so will inquire as to stress test and such. Want to make sure I'm good to go. Need to get her to RX a blood pressure machine with large cuff so I can medically reimburse for it. But I'm feeling so much better today. My lows are lower (mental fog is stronger and lasts longer), but my balance is so much higher a level than it has been. Looking so forward to it!!
Maybe I can push my doc and get her to RX a barbell system for me to have at home!! I have the money to reimburse for it that I'll lose otherwise.... Hmm....food for thought.
Anyway, have a feel fabulous moment, so thought I'd share!
Hugs,
Carly in OK, looking at the bright sunshine today as a positive thing - as long as I'm not in it to get crispy...LOL0
