It gets easier!

I just wanted to say--for anyone who's struggling with breastfeeding right now in the very beginning--that it does get easier. My son's latch was terrible at first. He was tongue-tied and also couldn't open his mouth very wide, so I had the snipping procedure done ( drs assured me that it wasn't painful for him, and it didn't seem to be), and I used nipple shields too. It hurt for three weeks...until one day it didn't. One day he decided he didn't need the nipple shield either, and latched on really well without it at about four months.

At two or three months he went through a growth spurt and I was afraid that I wasn't producing enough, but I put him on to nurse constantly, ate tons of oatmeal and drank lots of water and my supply increased.

Now it's pretty easy--he feeds four or five times during the day and once at night. It only takes about 5-10 minutes each time.
So anyway, if you're having trouble in the beginning like I did, keep at it if it's important to you.

I totally agree! If I'd realized the first time just how much stick-to-it-ive-ness you needed to BF, I'd have had a much better experience. The second time, I knew this and stuck to it!

The pain of a thousand knives directly into your boobs will stop almost suddenly. (For me it didn't dissipated so much as just disappear.)

You will also have periods when you'll feel like you couldn't possibly be producing enough. Chances are, you're producing plenty! Have confidence in your supply :)
