Blisters! Help!

My right big toe has always been a blister-magnet. The usual blister spot has callused over (thank goodness), but this week I've been struggling with a blister north of the callus that I can't seem to banish. I've popped/drained it, put Neosporin on it, covered it with a Band-Aid... anything else I can do? I have a seven mile race tomorrow, which is hilly and I'm sure that will aggravate the blister-spot, and I'd really like to run it without feeling like someone's stabbing me in the toe. Anyone have some fancy blister tricks that can alleviate this blister pain by tomorrow?

Pop it, then soak it in a bucket with water and epsom salt (the kind for sore muscle). It will hurts like a **** but in 2 days it should be all dried out.
Good luck!0 -
I wouldn't be putting ointment or Band-Aids on it (unless you absolutely have to). It needs to dry and peel away, and the skin underneath it needs to toughen up. Do what Josee said. It works.0

I put Neosporin and a Band-Aid on it because it was looking a little red/infected. But I'll try to get it to salt-soak it and dry out so I can peel away the skin. Might have to cover it during the race tomorrow morning, but hopefully it will be gone by the end of the weekend. Thanks for the advice!0 -
Not that you want to do anything about this right now, but is it a shoe fitting issue? Do you need to go up a size? Can you try different socks? I rarely to never get blisters on my feet (other areas yes unless I remember to BodyGlide).0

I don't think it's the shoes. And I've always had large calluses on my big toes that don't cause me any problems, and I usually just Vaseline my big toes to prevent any blistering. But I got a new pair of socks last week and I think the seam irritated it on my 7 miler Wednesday because they were a bit off-kilter (they were fine on my 16 miler though!), so I need to be a bit more careful putting those on0 -
I had a huge blister on my arch and mistakenly kept it moist and covered for a few days. It hurt really bad. As soon as I let it dry out, it started to heal and feel much better. I will never again keep a blister moist during the initial healing period! I had a race while still recovering from it and I slathered it with vaseline before and then once during the race and it didn't get any worse. I was worried that a bandaid might bunch up and cause another blister, so I didn't cover it during the race. Good luck!0

Dave suggested Trail Toes to me when I was asking about chafing--perhaps that would help you.0
