Every program is different. Here is my timeline (I started with insurance approval in hand):
April 15th My program started with an all-day orientation. They gave us a binder with all sorts of information and the checklists for all of the pre-surgery appointments. I was scheduled for the first appointment with my surgeon on June 11 (8 weeks later) and was supposed to get all of the pre-work done.
April 30th Exercise/Nutritionist class (three hours total)
May 7th Blood work (lots of it) to check nutrient levels, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.
May 12th EKG from primary care physician
May 14th Psychologist consultation, got psych clearance - 1.5 hour appointment
June 11th 1st consultation with surgeon, determined which surgery (VSG), was doing very well on pre surgery diet
June 11th Medical clearance - appointment with separate internal medicine doctor to review hospital requirements for inpatient surgery. reviewed medications, etc.
July 18th Surgical Re-evaluation. second meeting with surgeon for final review of all checklist items and get surgery date. Reviewed all pre-surgery requirements (1 week liquid diet, day before surgery diet), hospital check in procedures and locations, etc.
September 30th Surgery Date
So roughly 5.5 months for me. It could have been quicker for me (I passed up a June 13 date for my second surgical appointment), but I was doing well on the pre-surgery plan, I didn't need to rush things and we had some family plans that would have made a July/August surgery inconvenient.
I seem to have been the slowest I have seen (not counting getting to the insurance approvals). I have been very happy with the program. All of the people involved seem very pleasant and their goal is to ensure our success, delivered through a lot of straight talk and tough love.

If you've completed all that your insurance company requires and your doctor is ready to schedule surgery, I would expect the surgery to be schedule in the next couple weeks. I would really be surprised if it was any longer than that.
How are you feeling about your upcoming surgery? I'm so excited for you!0
