Lately I have been experiencing swollen ankles and feet esp upon wakening in the mornings; I am relatively sure this is just a result of the higher temps & humidity we have been getting. I am currently taking a low dose medication for hypertension that contains a mild diuretic but I still get that swollen feeling. I drink about 32-64oz of water each day. Any suggestions for reducing the swelling?

    It's NOT the weather.

Edema of the lower extremities has a variety of causes and none of them are good.

I had swelling in my left foot in July 2001. A month later (I was out of the country when it happened) they found the cause — a blood clot behind my left knee. It could have killed me.

Call the doctor and make an appointment and then buy some compression stockings or wear compression sleeves on your calves and wear them daily until you talk to the doc.

I don't mean to be rude but I am being blunt intentionally. I had varicose veins for years and no doc told me about the problems that I could have. Check out my blog from a few days back for my little "how I spent my summer" write up.

Please - get the stockings and see a doc. :-)

I have my annual well woman exam and physical scheduled the Monday afternoon. I will discuss this with my dr then.
