Fitbit vs HR monitor vs pedometer - experts?

Hi- wondering if anyone out there has compared a Fitbit to a Polar Heart Rate monitor. I have a fancy pedometer- close to what the Fitbit Zip is I think- mine is called Max and its from Virgin. Good for measuring steps and cals burned = to steps. However, I'm looking for something that will more accurately track my cal burned while working out. I always program the machine at the gym w/ my weight and age, but there seems to be big difference between what MFP has for cal burned for an activity- say 45min on the elliptical vs what the machine says I burned. I'm starting to have an increase in appetite, and want to make sure that on days I eat a little more than my goal (900)- I'm burning it too, so I'm looking to close that gap on accuracy. I also want to make sure I maintain a deficit between eating/ excercizing as I'm noticing that my loss rate is dropping a bit.
