Meditation
Wednesday, Ordinary 18, Proper 13 reinforced the lesson that God takes care of believers. The Old Testament lesson from the prophet Isaiah, spoke to the time when God would bring the children of Israel together again from around the world, where they had dispersed. While the current state of Israel may be seen as a start to the return of God’s chosen people to the Promised Land, the land promised to God’s people encompasses a much larger zone.
The constant fighting in the Middle East over land and power undermined the belief in the Prophet Isaiah’s words. However, there was a distinction for Isaiah. God was talking about actively gathering the people together. It could be the future gathering of God’s people would have a greater Divine involvement than a political one. Under the benevolence of God, the Promised Land could find a more peaceable government with justice for all and safety that has not been known.
The care of God was exemplified in Jesus feeding the 4000 plus women and children. They had been listening to Jesus for three days without leaving to prepare food. Again, they had a paltry amount of food—seven loaves and several fish—which he turned into enough food to feed everyone to their fill and have seven baskets left over. Abundance. God had demonstrated generosity from the Old Testament to the New Testament.
The truth is, we can also be recipients of the care and nurture of God’s love and grace.
Thanks be to God.

Prayer: Almighty God, Open my eyes that I might see. Open my mind that I might understand. Open my heart that I might make your words a part of me. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight. Amen

Daily Bible Verses to Memorize for Meditating

Ephesians 6:10-18
King James Version (KJV)
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Matthew 15:32-39
King James Version (KJV)
32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

Prayer of Encouragement

Almighty God, we are grateful for your constant care. Just as you protected the Psalmist, just as the prophet foretold of your gathering the chosen, just as Jesus fed the 4000, you care for our needs today. We count on your grace and truth. In Jesus name, Amen

Conclusion
Wednesday, Ordinary 18, Proper 13 showed God’s love for creation—the chosen people, the Jews and those adopted into the family of God—in the consistent care and protection, despite the failures on the part of all on earth. People fail. God loves and cares. When God will gather the Jews back into the Promised Land there will be a time we shall truly see the benevolence of God unsurpassed.
In the meantime, we have a responsibility to do our part in spreading the Good News, demonstrating the love of God in all that we say and do.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
