exhaustion levels poll

Hey everyone....

I know every body is different.....but when did you start to feel more energized? I am 15 days out ... I have been falling asleep at 730 everynight (alarm goes off at 530 AM.) My two best friends have their birthdays this weekend and are going out clubbing and partying. I only obligated myself to going out to dinner (which will suck enough.) I can't see myself having the energy with no real food, no caffeine, to drive 45 min away to go clubbing, and then drive 45 min back. I feel like a lot of people don't understand how trying the first couple weeks are. When am I going to start getting my energy back? I really miss my 10 diet cokes a day right about now....or my red bulls!

I did not really get any energy back until about week 7. I kept reminding myself that I had just had major surgery and my body needed to heal. From week 7 on my energy level has just continued to get better and better.

I feel great until I go out and do something. If I stand too long I get dizzy. I actually blacked out at the grocery store! My doctor told me I would feel "normal" approx 4-6 weeks after surgery

Your body is still healing from the surgery. That takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Are you ready to go clubbing and partying? That seems a bit overbooard to me. But, you are young and your friends want you there, but what really are you going to eat and drink?

You will get over the diet cokes and red bulls, it just takes adjustment time. Make sure you take your vitamin B's, and Drink water.

Good luck on the clubbing! Let us know how that goes.

I wish I could go. But I know that right now I just don't have the energy. I actually had to have my mom change all her plans a couple days ago so she could drive me to my post op. It is just crazy how tired we get! I look forward to week 6 then! It'll be nice to be able to stay up later than a 3 year old!

It took about 6-8 weeks before I felt "normal" and the weight loss really added to the energy level as I wasn't caring that around anymore (yes even that little bit helped). I'm a cofffee addict, but weaned myself to decaf prior to surgery (yuck!). Since I couldn't go back to "real" coffee for several months I got my caffine from tea. It's not quite the same amount, but it helped with the need to nap.

I know you want to go back to your normal life, but I do hope someone has warned you that alchohol will most likely affect you differently now. I actually get a buzz on just a 1/4 bottle of beer or a 1/2 glass of wine. I really can't drink much anymore. I don't have any of this too often either, maybe twice a year, simply because I don't want to waste my limited calories on them.

Be careful out with your friends, eat within your docotor's guidelines for where you are. If you rush it, you could really hurt your still healing stomach.

Thanks Pawoodhull! I actually stopped drinking for the most part over a year ago. I have PCOS and it just wasn't worth the extra calories. We are going to a Japanese restaurant so I will be having some soup :)

I long for the day where I don't need a nap!

I think like Pat it took me about 6-8 weeks to feel "normal" again. It was a little challenging at first when I went back to work but once I got into a routine it wasn't bad. I did go to sleep a little earlier for a while, but as my energy picked up, the general fatigue definitely went away. I think I waited about 6 weeks before I went out with friends. I was definitely ready to get back to normal!

It took me about 6 weeks to get any semblance of energy and stamina back. Just try to keep in mind that you had major surgery and your body needs some time to heal. The energy will return and as you get further along you will be amazed at what you can do.

Good plan! Soup should be safe. Enjoy your time with your friends and you will get to a point where you don't need a nap, at least for awhile. You see, now that I'm post menopausel I've found I don't sleep well (a common side effect) and I frequently need a nap. Doesn't mean I get one only that I want one. :-))

6-8weeks, and miso soup is perfect!
