How to log tennis

I am new to the Fitbit and was wondering if it will track accurately when I play tennis or should I wear my HR monitor and enter the calorie burn into the program?

Thanks for your help!

I would wear your FitBit and the HRM. I would have the FitBit record the activity and update the calories burned if they are too much/little based on what your HRM tells you.

I hadn't played tennis in years, and then did it twice a week ago (with my dad) ... although, MY tennis was pretty casual! I wear my Fitbit 24/7 ... I put my HRM that first time, but it wasn't working good (no heartbeat ... I didn't think I was dead) and as we were just playing around, I just went with what my Fitbit said, which wasn't a huge burn, but I didn't think I'd really done much to earn one.

When we played again, we did actually play some games. I did wear my HRM and it worked this time. I'd played soccer recently, and the Fitbit and HRM were very different ... those sprints just upped the heart rate and kept it elevated even though I didn't get that many actual steps in. I wondered if tennis would be similar, but it wasn't for me. My heart rate would bump up here and there, but it was nothing like soccer.

For my 45 minutes, my Fitbit said 275, my HRM said 273 for calorie burn estimates ... and that felt about right to me and I was impressed they were that close. Not a huge burn, but I had fun and it was something different from my usual. I could see people getting a bigger burn if they put more into it, and I wonder if both the Fitbit and HRM would reflect additional effort. I'm not sure I have the skill to even put that to the test :)

Thanks for your responses! I play doubles, but our coach says that if you're not hitting the ball, then you should be moving. It will be interesting to see the calorie burn from a match, especially if we go into 3 sets!
