I have just past my 8 yr anniversary with surgery, over the past 2 yrs I have begun to put on noticeable weight gain. At present I am 265lbs..original weight was 525lbs,,for the longest time I was stable between 200 and 210lbs.

My problem is that I can not figure out why I am putting this weight on. I am active, do a lot of walking. on average 15000 steps a day. I also weight train and do cardio at the gym 3x a week.

Like I said I eat 1500 calories a day,,to put any more in would be a struggle, I , unlike before eat slower and stop when I get full and stomach hurts.

I have looked for any self learning explanations, but basically come up empty. I will be trying to get in to see a bariatric specialist. When I had operation I had to go out of country to Rochester, I live in Hamilton Ont, and health system I believe not quick to help someone who has been seen by other doctors.

Any advise, guidance or information, as well as sharing would be grateful and helpful. thks

How did your Dr visit go and what is the cause of the gain? I'm in the same boat 385 to 220 and back up to 303.

  • Hello sorry to hear about you struggles. Had gastric bypass Aug 08 2014 - now past one year anniversary! weight was 297 now down to 177 and still losing. Eating 900 - 1200 calories daily -walking 40 km weekly.
There is no bariatric support group in my area so I joined a few months before surgery the Tops group - similar to weight watcher but much cheaper. I track on daily basis my food intake and my exercise regime. I weight all my food - what goes on my lips goes into my daily journal. Important to monitor fat intake - try to stay away from processed foods. If you have gone away from tracking ......you should get back to that and see if that makes a difference...... try talking to a dietician so you can zone in on the right food regime. Continue seeing a bariatric specialist to find out if there are any medical reasons for weight gain. Need to gain control right away before things really get out of hand. Good luck guys!

so just a quick update, since I originally posted. Things on the scale have continued to go up. arthritis in my ankles have once again become a issue, and I am now wearing ankle braces. I have a Major case of flat feet, which do not help the issue. I have begun the process of returning to a bariatric center, were I am looking into the possibility of a revision surgery. Have found out that around the 8 t 10 year make the body can begin to put weight on, which I have found out. Now admittedly some of what I have gained is self inflicted, thus I am looking forward to getting retrained and motivated . Up until this time everything was self motivation, however when issues arose, I could not find the answers or support I was looking for. If revision does not go , than surely looking forward to re education, so I can return to the new old me I was for the past few years. Best wishes and thoughts to all out there.
