So I apparently I am some gross weirdo to my friends because I don't wear an extra pair of underwear under my running shorts. I didnt know people even did that! I use the built in liner as my solo pair.
Curious to know-does the majority wear a pair in addition to their running shorts?

In the summer, all of my shorts have built in underwear and for me that's how I run. In the winter I run in running leggings/tights. And I wear underwear under those. I also wear a pair of shorts over the top cause I'm too old (fashioned) to run in very tight apparel!0

I used to.
Even with long capris or pants.
Now I only wear underwear with ome pair of UA shorts (no liner and very short). And a baggy pair of UA pants (because they're baggy and sit low on my hips).
No panty lines or wedgies.0 -
Now I feel like a weirdo. I never knew people went commando while wearing lined running shorts. :-) I always wear my undies while running.0

What would be the point of having a liner if you had to wear underwear too?
I do under winter tights that aren't lined because I find it more comfortable. But lots of people just go commando under those too. And it would have to be pretty damn cold for me to bother with tights instead of normal running shorts anyway.0 -
I don't wear underwear any other time, why would I put them on to run?0

If there is a liner in the shorts why do you need underwear?0

Lol wear nike pro shorts only.. No liner, but they are basically spankies, so I've gone commando on many occasions, but I prefer to wear underwear with it because I feel like my v would chaff if I did a longer run :-O0

In my experience, most runners go commando.0

I go commando with shorts with a liner/built in brief (prevents chafing!). If I'm just wearing gym shorts, then it's a pair of compression briefs.0

Always commando. All my running shorts and skirts have liners - and I think it looks weird when people wear underwear under running tights. VPL - no thanks. The shorts I wear to the gym and to yoga are fitted, so underwear isn't necessary.0

I used to until I did a 14 mile run in the humid swamp of Houston and the seams ripped my thighs bloody. So now it's just compression shorts with nothing under.0

Must be nice.

I wear underwear, but seamless non-cotton ones. Just feels more secure? I've recently converted my husband to wearing compression spandex for his runs as he was complaining about chafing. He no longer questions all the spandex in my running wardrobe!0

Nope. I pretty much either wear running skirts with built-in boy shorts or capris/tights that are meant to be worn commando.0

I never heard of such......running with underwear on? I think I did that as a teenager once, when her parents came home unexpectedly!0

To quote Kramer..." Im out there Jerry and loving every minute of it" lol0

Commando... Running free every single mile.
Unless its below minus 20.... then I'll consider additional shielding from the elements.:ohwell:0 -
I normally wear cotton boxers in my every day life . I think it would be weird to wear those under the liner briefs.0

Don't bother with anything, shorts have a liner, tights keep everything under control so no need.
That said, I only wear boxer briefs under my suits at work though.0 -
Length of run is definitely in play here. For shorter runs I use the liner with my skirt/shorts. For anything over 20mi I generally wear compression shorts or capris. The seam in the crotch is no bueno. First I tried a thong- great for anything up to about a 50k but use the restroom and my panties literally get in a twist. So if you're going much further...can anyone say butt crack chafing? Ouch! Then there are my beloved "ultra undies" which I whip out (no pun intended) for anything 50+mi: the Lululemon light as air hipster. No seams except for a bonded seam (no stitching) that runs vertically just inside the hip bone. They are no show and prevent chafing even after multiple bathroom breaks with wet sweaty legs and nether areas.0

Liner is good enough in the summer.0

For long runs (10 miles and over), I use completely seamless running underwear (Champion brand) under everything because, as others have mentioned, the seams get uncomfortable.0

no underwear...just a lube that s@#t up and hit the road! :bigsmile:0

although, in winter, I wear a pair of wind proof underwear under my tights...so I don't get a junksicle. Personal enough for ya"?0

Junksicle!!
I do wear undies in winter.. Because, Canada here! I need to wear a merino wool base layer under my running tights, and at 100$ a pop I only have one pair of those... Ewwwww to wearing it 4-5 days in a row without underwear!0 -
Thongs or none. Depends on the seaming of the capris/shorts. If they have a gusset, I prefer none. It seems like the thongs just move the area of chafing around, but to a less sensitive area so I guess that's good. I just got some Moving Comfort undies, but haven't had a chance to try them out. They sound a little like the Lulu ones mentioned, which I will look at the next time I'm in that shop.
This gives me something new to ponder as I pass the male runners around here.0
