6 months pregnant, 25 weeks to be exact....I was 125 pre pregnancy and I'm 146 now.

QUESTION:

What are active moms reaching as far as calorie intake?! I workout 5 times a week, I burn 400-500 calories per workout session. I log my calories and find myself consistently eating between 2600 to 3000 calories a day!!! I drink 6-8 liters of water a day. Feels like my calorie intake is out of control....or is it average? I don't know.

Thanks.

You can use this calculator to see an average amount of calories needed. Just keep in mind, it's average... you may need more or less depending on your own metabolism. But the best way to track whether you're eating too many calories is to track your weight with your OB or doctor.

The most common recommendation I've seen is to eat maintenance cals in the first trimester, maintenance + 250ish in the second, and maintenance plus 250-500 in the third trimester. Hope that helps!

I'm 5'6 and started my third pregnancy at 154lbs. I ate 1500 calories to begin with then gradually increased it to 2000 which was maintenance for me. I went to the gym/classes 4 times a week and went out walking a lot too with my kids. I also worked until 35 weeks as a teacher so on my feet all day.

I'm 14 weeks post partum now and I reckon I need to lose at least 25lbs still! If I'd followed the pregnancy calorie counter thing I should've been eating about 2300 a day, so I'm glad I didn't follow that or I'd have gained even more!

Ive been told that I need to maintain for both first and second tri and then in third I need 300 extra calories a day. I was 30lbs over when I started at 178 9 1/2 weeks in I have maintained at 2200 calories a day. I have a friend who was at hear healthy weight starting and also has maintained first and second and will be adding for third tri 300 a day.

I just want to say I am happy to see that you are eating that much!
So many try to stick to 1200 calories (or even less) when they are pregnant.

Subtract the exercise and the extra 300 calories for pregnancy and you are eating 1900-2200.

    I netted 2300 during pregnancy.... But, I digress... I'm about 200lbs.

If you choose to dial it back a little, don't do so by too much.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant, don't work out (severe round ligament pain), & eat around 2,100 calories per day. My maintenance was 1680. I've gained 7lbs thus far. I suggest either working out less to see if your hunger subsides, or keep doing what you're doing. I lost all the baby weight fast with #1. It all comes off it you workout that much after :)

Hi, I am very active like you are, I weighed 155 (at 5'4 1/2") pre and at 20 weeks I am now 169. Doc says I am right on point, I am eating 2000 a day now. I burn between 4-600 at gym also. The 2000 is my net.

Thank you for the comments ladies. I modified my diet to include a pea protein, veg/fruit smoothie in the morning, then later a small second breakfast. I took all processed food out of my diet except for multigrain bread for toast and sandwiches. Everything else is fruit/veg and natural grain based like quinoa and brown rice. It helped cut my cals back. I've been doing this for 3 days and have dropped the cals by about 300. I drink a smoothie whenever I have a craving for something.
