Stall for two solid weeks now ...

Sigh ... I am very discouraged. I have lost inches, I have a trainer I work out with twice a week, but the scale hasn't moved a bit!

It is really getting me depressed! I figured I would lose slower than other individuals who are (1) under 50 years old and (2) are non-diabetics but damn, a full-on two week stall only 5-6 weeks out! Very depressing indeed.

I have MFP set to 900 calories a day (with no mental anguish if I go to 1000) and the scale doesn't want to move.

Besides a walking in place video (YouTube Leslie Sansone) for about 5-7 minutes, I don't know what else to do to 'shock' my body into losing even a pound or two this entire month.

Should I go back to all liquids for a day or two? Advice please!

Thank you,
Wendy

Hi Wendy. I know well how frustrating this came be. I lose slowly and stall often, have since the beginning. Some people do and I've learned to live with it. So, breaking a stall is kind of hit or miss for me. What sometimes works is to look at my food log and go back to doing what I was when I lost that 4 pounds. That said if you weren't working out like you are, I would say try the full liquids for a day or two, but I don't think your caloric intake is the issue here.

I think you are gaining muscle. Remember, pound for pound, fat is larger than muscle. Think a pound of feathers and a pound of bricks. Our muscle is bricks, one pound of muscle takes up much less space than a pound of fat (feathers). That's why you are losing inches/sizes and the scale isn't moving. You are losing fat and gaining muscle right now. Make sense?

My doctor told me at the beginning as long as something is going down (scale or inches/sizes) you are going in the right direction. Sounds to me like you are still going in the right direction.

I hit a major stall about 4 weeks out that lasted for about 10 days. It was frustrating, but keep working at it and it will move again. Also, you're probably building muscle while losing fat which won't impact the scale but will raise your metabolic rate and jumpstart your weight loss once the stall is over.

Calculate your BMR. Mine is 1350 calories per day for a 5'5"sedentary 45 yr old 150 lb female. sedentary because I work out less than 3 hours per week and only walk 10,000 steps 3-4 days a wk. At 1000 cals a day it will take 10.8 days to lose a lb. since each lb of fat is about 3800 cals. Are you weighing and measuring your food? I never lost well at 900, too easily to blow over to 1200 and then it would take me a month to lose a lb. I had to stick to 750-850 and become "that person" who weighed her food. Wish I had gotten over that early on. Weigh and measure and lose wt at a reasonable pace, don't weigh and measure and lose wt really slowly

Sorry your struggling with a stall. I was just wondering if your nutritionist set you at 900 this early on? Many of us are on 80 and I know for myself the first month I struggled to get 500. At present, 5 months out I can be anywhere between 600-800. But of course whatever your Dr tells you to do is what he/she thinks is best for you.
Stalls do happen,,we know that. But even though we know it and we know logically they wont last, it doesn't make it easier to come to terms with them. Your body can often be resting up after a really tough few weeks. As long as you have a calorie deficit your body will start to give in and the scales will move again. Good luck. Hope it moves for you really soon.
