Hello everyone!
Again!
I hope your bulking/cutting is going well! Mine is officially starting to kick off, I think.
After about 2 weeks of trial, I think my maintenance is 1800. I'm still testing it out though, and I think I've been bloated from a lot of water retention (too much sodium), so that may have affected any slight weight gain within the past few days.
BUT, if the scale is correct, I'm hovering around ALMOST 103 pounds. When I started this all, I was around 101. So, 2 pounds in three months...! That's nothing. Crap. I didn't realize how horrible I've been doing. :P
Oh, well. I was trying to get over the mental issue of bulking and STILL am, but I think things are getting better. I'm just irritated by my stomach. That thing puffs out like that fish from Finding Nemo. (No idea where that reference came from. Perhaps sitting with my cousin's kids, haha).
But otherwise than my stomach, I'm really starting to notice strength in my arms and legs. My sister even pointed out that my legs are looking muscular. I kind of like the way they look better than the skinny, flabby stuff that I had before.
My arms, when bench pressing at least, are kind of bothering me. I wish I could do more. I'm benching around 65 (including the bar), by only for about 1 set of 5. I'm hoping that my newbie gains are slowly down too drastically yet!
I'm squatting between 95-105 lbs, so that's sometimes OVER the weight I'm at right now. I think my form has improved, though last night when I was squatting, my brain seemed to have forgotten how to do it correctly and I was hurting my knees again. :P
I'm doing little cardio. 5 minutes of something, usually on my arm days. I don't feel like it does much at all... Probably because it doesn't, but I feel like I've moved at least sometime during the day since I'm starting to do a lot of classes online at home. :P
I'm continuing to try to bump my calories up. The numbers are freaking me out because I don't want to gain too much too fast. I want to reach 2000 eventually, but I have no idea when that's going to be! :P I feel like I've been between 1700-1900 over the past month or so. Just ALL over the place.
Sometimes when on the scale, and I see it go up, it scares me and I want it to go back down... But, that's where the real fight comes in! The true battle! I WANT this. I WANT to have muscles and look amazing! I don't want to be skinny-fat. :P
Every day is a struggle, but a constant reminder of what I want. It's just sometimes harder to work for. But, I'm pretty determined, so hopefully I'll get over the fears.

Are you doing a starting strength/Stronglifts type programme? I ask as I gained hardly any upper body strength doing that - I'd work up to 25 kg then have to deload, work up to it, deload etc.
I'd exhaust your squat and deadlift gains then consider a different programme. Wendlers has worked well for my upper body but I'm sure other intermediate programmes would too.
Well done on the gains so far0 -
You don't realize how hard it is to gain purposefully until you have to do it LOL, but just keep adding every 3 weeks. No reasons to rush.
I agree with 3laine- go with the gains- then jump programs.
Just keep upping them calories- you can eat more than you think! I promise!0 -
personally, i suck at upper body stuff & i'm really good at lower body. you just have to keep working everything at its own pace & eat like you mean it!!!
also maybe try a pre workout eventually? i like c4 extreme. that stuff definitely helped me with a plateau on my bench press.0
