Considering Tubeless Clinchers on my CaadX...

(shamelessly cross-posted from the Cyclocross Group...)

Bought a nice CaadX 105 Disc last winter, which has been great, but the stock tyres are Wire-Beaded Sammy Slicks which weigh almost as much as the entire wheel on my road-bike. Good news is they’ll be worn out before too long, so it gives me a chance to do a little upgrading – Now, I don’t race, gave it up 25+ years ago, and don’t ever envision even wanting to go back to it... (I’m too old, too unfit and Waaay too fat to do it well, and far to over-competitive to ride for fun.), so going for tub’s is not an option, but, having run tubeless conversions on my MTB as a way to avoid pinch-flatting, I wondered if there was the same sort of kit out there to run ‘cross clinchers in the same way…

The CaadX is running stock wheels, the Maddux CX 2.1 Disc, 36-hole rims aren’t specifically tubeless (i.e. they’re through-drilled for the spokes unlike my Ultegra 6700′s on the roadbike which are actually road-tubeless compatible) so I’m assuming they’ll need some form of rim-tape (either a DIY / Ghetto or factory solution. Plus, I’d be needing sealant obviously. And of course, recommendations (or one’s to avoid) for a sensible (and preferably sensibly priced!) all-round tyre that’d be happy working with gloop and tape rather than innertubes. Oh - and I'm UK Based, so anything that involves sourcing in 'murica and shipping over is not going to happen on a cost basis...

Bump... I'm in the same boat, so I'd be interested in any responses too!

I have a lot of friends who have converted their mtn bikes using Stan's No Tube conversion kits. They have them for cross and road bikes too.

I use Stans for my MTB rims that aren't tubeless ready and it works great. You can either go with a rubber rim strips or the rim tape. The rim tape is cleaner and lighter than the rubber rims strips.
