I'm not 100% on the new theme tune and opening credits but I like how they've done it with Clara not being too sure about him. What does everyone else think?

I agree about the opening credits. I really wanted to like the episode more than I did. It was nice to see Vastra, Jenny and Strax, and Peter Capaldi did the best he could with what they gave him because he's just a great actor. I did appreciate the effort made at addressing the possible lack of acceptance by a younger crowd, since both Tennant and Smith kind of brought a teenybopper contingent to the fan base that might need help appreciating an older Doctor. I weirdly missed seeing him picking out his new outfit (I did like the red-lined coat), and did like the mention of scarves. Enjoyed the conversation between Clara and the Doc at the restaurant table, especially the little bit about Clara probably preferring that an out of place hair be killed.
My annoyance with Steven Moffat has reached a new level. He's cutting the scripts from the same cloth as the Muppet Babies now with only a few good sequences that sound like adult dialogue. It makes me dread the return of Sherlock. Someone needs to take him out to the woodshed and tell him to stop injecting artificial Zany/ADD steroids into things to make them more "fun" and to dial the maudlin back. God I miss Russ Davies.0 -
I liked pretty much everything except the new Doctor. But, since he is just getting started, I am willing to reserve judgement.
I never cared for Clara, but I like how she was here, less than perfect, but up for the challenge.
The dinosaur was heartbreaking.
Did anyone else get the feeling all was not well in Jenny and Vastra's marriage? A little bit of friction
I loved the phone call. Nice touch. Weirdly, I was kind of wondering if they would do something just like that.
I don't dislike Moffat as much as you do. Though, last season went off the rails a bit. He said he is going to try for darker and less silly / flippant. I'll give him a couple of episodes more to prove himself.
It looked like they were tossing Daleks in next episode. Darker tone or not, that seems a bit hurried, doesn't it?0 -
I stood and watched in shock at the opening credits.
Other than that, I liked the episode. I loved seeing hints of the previous Doctors and I feel that Capaldi will grow on me just like Matt did.0 -
The Dalek episode is going to become a classic and will probably be one of the best this series. (I read the leaked script.)
I enjoyed the episode and already love Capaldi as the Doctor. I always like Vastra/Jenny/Strax and Vastra and Jenny were particularly needed for Clara's problem with the regeneration. I'm still a tiny bit confused why she wanted him to stay young looking when she had that older guy poster up but whatever. Series 8 is for Clara being more than the Impossible Girl and I'm looking forward to that.
And Capaldi telling the dinosaur he wasn't flirting was HILARIOUS as well as the whole eyebrow rant. Two throwbacks to Eleven's reign.

Recorded the two episodes & finally felt ready to watch them today.
First episode ...... where's my buddy, where's my pal ????? Geez, I got teary-eyed ! Probably felt the same as Clara ...... who the hell is THIS bozo ???? It's a good thing there was that phone call & Jenny ....... snapped me out of my funk :sad:
Second episode ....... hate, hate, hate Daleks ...... if I understand correctly that the Doctor wants to "fix" his mistakes, maybe we'll never have to see those buggers again. Also, Clara likes the new teacher ...... is he for real ??? or is he some monster in disguise ????
So, I'm ok with the new Doctor ....... but he's not nearly as cute as the last two

After the second episode I still can't quite work it out XD I think the new Doctor needs to put his own individual stamp on it, which he hasn't really done yet. I don't think Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman go together that well as a pair. As much as I like her and her story lines, they just don't seem to fit.0
