I hear a thousand things about shoes and they all confuse me! I'd love to hear all your thoughts about running shoes. Please?

Go to a specialty running store and talk to them about shoes. Let them give you a fitting. They'll put you in the right shoe. Don't go to Richard's Sporting Goods or any other big box stores. They don't know their @ss from a hole in the wall when it comes to running shoes.0

Thank you, Carson. It is the only thing that makes sense.0

Agreed. 10 people will tell you 10 different things about shoes. You should go to your locally owned running store (not a national sporting good chain or shoe store) and get them to look at your stride, pronation, and get you fitted in something that will allow you to feel comfortable and prevent injury.0 -

Yep. So worth it.0 -
Unless you want to run in minimalist shoes. Every specialty running shoe store I have gone to has tried desperately to talk me out of them. So I do my research and order my shoes online. Works out great for me.0

I'll second this... unless you have a local specialty running store that is knowledgeable and open to the possibilities of minimalist running shoes (i.e. one that actually carries minimalist shoes and has staff that run in them) then it is very hard to get good local advice on minimalist running - even at a specialty store.0 -
All this advise is so silly. Go to a local garage sale and pick up a pair of shoes that fit somewhat well, you can find some great bargains!! Don't worry about anything silly like holes or such, that is what they make ShoeGoo for!!!! And hey, if you run in them long enough, they turn into minimalist shoes!!!
Seriously though, don't skimp on your shoes until you know exactly what you need....that is, as the saying goes, "penny wise and pound foolish" If you get the wrong shoes you will end up paying for it in injuries or having to purchase another pair of shoes.0
