Why is so much anti-women content tolerated?

This is seriously the only forum I frequent where anti-women content is posted and tolerated on a daily basis. Does anyone have any clue why this is allowed to happen??

You've been silently raging about that one thread all day too, then?

I guess some people can't past the thought that the only reason women could possibly want to get thin is to be more sexually attractive, and unwanted sexual attention should be regarded as some kind of affirmation.

    But yeah.

I did have to step away from that thread

As I was walking to the gym this evening I was wondering, is it because I just tend to frequent women-orientated, lefty-liberal forums that I have a bit of a skewed impression of the web? Are most general interest websites, such as MFP, so misogyny-friendly?

Unfortunately, in my experience this tends to be the case.

It's depressing. Despite being against the community guidelines it's just accepted. I have reported posts for discriminating and offensive comments and images, and they are just left standing.

In fact, don't get me started on the images that are accepted here.

So, for weeks I feel as though I've been banging my head against a brick wall, challenging anti-women content on MFP.
It was with a now familiar weary attitude that I challenged the use of the word "rape" in the thread, "What's the first song on your Weight Training Playlist?" from the Gaining Weight forum. So imagine my surprise to read how the conversation is going by page 2.

I feel inspired by fellow posters. It is worth sticking your neck out and challenging misogyny.

(I did first report the offending post - the mods left it to stand despite it breaking community rules).

Ok, so the conversation reverted to normal at the bottom of page 2, but there was definitely signs of improvement!
