Went to a welcome back to school bbq at Dean's school at lunch time, was nice seeing him with his friends, Dh and I went for a beer after and some nibbles, ate more than I would have liked on a good day but I am not over my cals, was trying to eat a little lower today and tomorrow to make up for a couple of days I did go over in the week lol. Oh well. Now I am sleepy though, such a lightweight with alcohol, one drink in the day and I want an afternoon nap! May sneak a 30 min one before I go meet Dean off the bus hehe.

Take the nap Natasha...you will be thankful later when Dean get home.
I have to admit I am a little frustrated right now. With football starting I have been to 3 games in under a week ...all during prime bike ride time. I have been using the treadmill instead on those days and it is just so much more of a chore. Even on nights when there aren't games I have to pick up kids at three different times from practice. I can still get out on weekends but I forgot how busy this time of year is. I am hoping it doesn't sidetrack my loss too much. I am thinking I may have to get over my fear of driving with the trailer on the car and go out on the trail during the day while the kids are at school. My husband is kind of against me going out on the trail on my own in case I get hurt or have bike problems but I am really itching to ride.
Does anyone else have to completely change their routine with the seasons? I wish I lived somewhere that it would be possible to bike all year.0 -
I hear you wennim (says the single 26yo man with no children and few responsibilities),
I hate that the nights are getting shorter which makes for a lot less time to get out and ride. I purchased some powerful bike lights but its still nicer to ride in the day. When I can get away from work riding in the afternoon is nice, especially with this better weather. I think I will try to ride through winter. I think taking the trailer out and taking the bike to the trail is a good idea. I'm tankful we have a lot of trails near here or at least ones I can ride to that aren't more then 20-30 min away, but when I'm going for a long ride i'm usually gone for an hour or two anyway.
Injury is always a possibility, which is hopefully why you have a phone with you. But you run that risk 5 or 50 miles from home. As for breakdowns that simple. You will break down. It's a bike, they get punctures. Do you know how to fix a puncture or change a tube and do you ride with patches and a spare inner tube? I cary a spare inner tube, patches, a multi tool and some towelettes in my saddle bag behind my saddle. I also changed the tubes out for thicker inner tubes and a puncture liner and haven't had a puncture in several months. Having the ability to fix those small problems is nice because it lets you dream bigger about the rides you can do without having to worry about breakdowns.0 -
I always carry my phone but there are some areas of the trail where coverage is spotty at best. I am thinking it might help if I agree to text before I go and then again when I get out so that he knows if I am out of contact for an unusually long time then something is wrong.
I do know how to change a inner tube and we also changed out for the self sealing puncture resistant tubes. I carry a small emergency repair kit. I have thankfully never had to do a repair on the trail but I am pretty self sufficient and am confident I could do it if the need arose. The way the trail is set up I am never more than a two mile walk to get to a shortcut to the trailhead...so worst case scenario I walk it out.
Can't really see biking in a foot of snow but I am thinking of trying snow shoeing this winter. One huge problem is I hate the cold...hmm maybe treadmill isn't so bad.0 -
My schedule used to change with the seasons, but not so much anymore. It changes more with the weather. We don't have the chance to do much right now due to finances and OKLAHOMA HEAT. Even a bike would be an utter luxury right now. Food wins out, unfortunately.
I'm glad to see everyone pushing limits. I can't wait to get my head on straight again to start doing that for myself again.
Hugs to all,
