Bit of a Shock

I saw the cardiologist this morning to get my clearance for surgery and he said he will not clear me for surgery without another stress test. I will be having that next Thursday, if he is happy with the results he will clear me for surgery, if he is not, I will be going back to see him.
It was a hell of a slap of reality.
I have had fibrillation for over 15 years, he has now diagnosed me, looking at the results of my heart ultrasound scan (which my Doctor btw said was nothing to worry about and I didn't need a cardiologist) with diastolic dysfunction. He explained to me that it means although the chambers have no problem pumping blood out of the heart there is a problem with letting the blood back in. He says he thinks this is the reason for the swelling I have, it is NOT lymphedema as the Doctor says, and that I am getting pulmonary edema also and probably flash flooding, which I thought was happening. The decision to have this surgery might well be the best I have ever made. IF he clears me for it.
It is one thing to suspect something is going on, and quite another for a cardiologist to sit there and say.. yes.. you have a problem.. and losing weight along with your controlled blood pressure and cpap machine is the only thing that will improve it.
wow.

Hi Julie,
Well I am glad you are informed and doing something about it. I hope the test goes well and you can go for surgery.0 -
Pat!!! I have been wondering where you got to. And this made me think of you. You are so young.. stay the course.. keep going.. you got this. Those who are much younger have got the chance to take hold of this right now before it catches up with them the way it has me.0

Wish you luck if you haven't done the tests yet - and hoping for good results if you already have....0
