I am 2 weeks out and I'm so excited. I know these next two weeks will be hard, but I'm super excited to get on with this. I could really use some friends now to help me through this journey though so if you'd like to invite me to be a friend, I would appreciate it.

I had surgery on 7/29, so about 6.5 weeks ago. Feel free to friend me, my diary is open to friends. The pre-op diet was the hardest, along with those first few days after surgery. But I was feeling pretty good after about one week post-surgery. Every day is easier and better than the day before.0

I (unexpectantly) have to have a filter put in.
I have only heard of 1 other person posting about this since being on MFP.
This was found out at what was suppose to have been my meeting w/ the surgeon to get my surgery date.
After Id fully completed everything and had been sitting here for almost 3 months (insurance had already gotten everything for their approval a few days after my final weigh in June 11).
I could've already been and done that during all these months that Ive been twiddling my thumbs, waiting on them...after all the hype they give about how soon a surgery can be done once we each complete all the requirements :ohwell:
After I met w/ "that" Dr, and he said he could do it anytime, it seems like their office is dragging their feet on getting me scheduled.
I don't know if any of you had to pay a Dr's "fee" but people going to this bariatric have to pay $250 for their initial intake and then the other $250 upon meeting w/ the surgeon for their surgery date for a total of $500 "dr's fee."
I was required to pay that along w/ my co-pay (as if I was seeing a specialist) and some of out of pocket for insurance.
I didn't get the date so I shouldn't have had to pay but you know, of course they took the money....before giving me the "no pass" on a surgery date
I'm guessing this is pocket/insurance money for him, in case we back out?!?
When I do have the surgery, 2 wks before (although we've always been told to change our eating habits from that moment forward), no potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, sugar(y) things including fruits.
Although I haven't gotten a date to start my 2 wks, I have greatly minimized all these things to a lower ratio but till I get the date, Im not totally excluding.
Really the only things I do eat from this list is 35 cal bread on occasion but I still have some fruit throughout the week (few grapes, cut up chunks of cantaloupe/watermelon/honeydew, blackberries or raspberries, all in moderation).
The day before, similar to when I had my upper GI test done, its a clear liquid diet (nothing colored or creamy, like tomato or potato soup).
The powder/liquid shakes start after surgery but IF youd like, you can start them prior to but not mandatory....no thanks, I will get plenty of time after to partake in all that :sick:0 -
I too started my pre-op liquid diet today. Good Luck and let the journey begin.0

My pre-op is protein drink for breakfast and lunch and a "lean and green" meal for dinner; 6 oz lean protein and healthy green salad with fat-free dressing.
Then all clear liquids three days before surgery.
I am not hungry per se, but I am craving some carbs for sure. Feeling unsatisfied....but not hungry. I will make it.0 -
You are lucky. My Pre-op is liquids only for two weeks. I started a couple days early since it was the beginning of the week. Water, 5 Protein Shakes a day, broth, or jello is pretty much the routine. Going to be a long haul, but hope to drop 20 lbs during the Pre-op diet.0

This is probably why the Dr here doesn't require liquid meal replacements prior to surgery, because like me (Im not sure if "5%" is the standard), I had to lose that much and see their dietician for 3 months.
The only drawback was that 3 months was the minimum, if you couldn't drop your 5% in that time, you had to keep going back till you did and even if you lost your 5% in 2 months, youre still required to go in for the 3rd month!
I think for us they want to make sure you've lost that weight 1st (& youre required to keep that amount off), not assume youre going to in time for the surgery since sometimes people do have "slippery slopes."
Ive watched the show "my 600lb life" and you see people on there going for an all out buffet the night before as their last hoorah!0 -
Good luck with the pre op diet, it certainly gets you motivated--I lost 7 kgs in the two weeks, am 1 week post op today0

I started my pre-op diet today. I could not finish my shake this morning! I guess I need to try several different ones before I find the one I like. My surgery has not been scheduled yet. I have chosen my "preferred" week, the 1st week of October. Good luck to everyone!!0

The purpose of the 2 week liquid diet at my facility is to reduce the liver size since it sits on top of the stomach. THe hope is that the liver reduces 30% and that will help in avoiding any unnecessary bruising to the liver during surgery.0

I just think they pre-plan & have you lose the 5% beforehand to make sure theyre not setting you up for surgery before youre body is officially ready.
Then we're required to keep that off or chance having the surgery re-scheduled.
Thank goodness, I would much rather eat solids and just restrict what they say to eliminate than have to start those shakes/powders before surgery and then have to go right back to them after surgery :sick:0
