Sedentary or active

I have my activity level set to sedentary and have recently enabled the negative calorie option on MFP. Over a period of a few weeks I have been surprised by how many steps I had to take before I would even start to earn any credit for activity. I start the day with something like a negative 150 calories on average.

Then last week I read an article in a weight loss magazine that quoted some research done at the Cooper Clinic in Texas. Their research purported to show you how active you are based on your daily step level. Here is what they said:

Fewer than 4,500 steps per day: you're very sedentary

4,500 - 5,500 steps: you're sedentary

5,500 - 7,500 steps: you're headed in the right direction

7,500 - 8,500: you're active, but it wouldn't hurt to add even more steps

8,500 and above: you're active, stick with it.

Now, I don't know how accurate this is, or how reputable this particular clinic is, but this would explain a lot to me because there are many days when I don't get past 5,000 steps. So my goal for the next little while will be to try to get at least 7,500 steps a day just to get out of the sedentary range.

I thought maybe someone else might find this interesting, hence the post.

I have my activity level at MFP set to lightly active, and a personal goal is to always move enough to earn extra calories. I figure I want to be at least 'lightly active' in my life.

I do get in 12-15k steps most days now. But not before I got my Fitbit. Its something I'm away of now, and I do things to add steps. Running in place, walking in the neighborhood, extra walking when doing errands...
