Sept 23, 2014 - TV shows and favorites

Good Morning!!! It's been a super busy few days for me with little to no computer time. Saturday and Sunday I was Table Steward at our dog clubs Obedience Trials which was super fun. I am not too sure at the moment whether Remy and I will pursue titles in obedience, it just doesn't look as fun to do as Rally and Agility.

Saturday night we went out to a steakhouse and a bar to celebrate my husbands birthday and the night did not end well, someone got very drunk and said some very hurtful things, one amongst those was that I am 'taking the easy way out' not sticking to WW and having lap band surgery. Sorry but I don't call this path an easy way out, I call it desperate to save my life. First of all its SURGERY, I don't call it easy that my whole way of eating and drinking will change, that I may never eat bread or steak or fruit peel or stringy or sticky foods of many kinds ever again, that I might regurgitate food, that if I vomit badly at any time my band might slip and I have to have more surgery. Easy?? Anyone else want to call it the easy way out?

Okay rant over.

I loved yesterdays threads about not concentrating on weight loss but rather in changing our lifestyle.. perfect.. it is what I will strive to do.

Next up it is a fall TV explosion right now. What are your favorite shows, or do you have favorite characters, I mean, I LOVE Grumpy Cat. Totally LOVE Grumpy Cat. I also love Big Bang Theory, The Blacklist, 24, Criminal Minds.

Julie, I am sorry that someone said hurtful things to you about the surgery. Surgery is a tool and for some, like myself, is the only way I feel I am going to get a handle on the weight. You still have to learn the healthy life skills and exercise and remember to eat (which may sound crazy, but when I first had the sleeve, I forgot to eat often)..... It is far from the easy way out.

    I wish you much success.

    Hugs,
    Cari from DE

Goodness, Julie. I sure hope it wasn't your hubby who went off on you about surgery. I'd have to string him up by his toenails! But, if it was him, I can tell you that most likely as a man, he is positively terrified of what all you are facing, what it can do for you, and what it will mean to him. However, it likely just blips on his radar as stress and panic, and he goes off, probably never even realizing that he is terrified of losing you and a dozen other silly things.

And I think we've had this discussion before, but no sane person is going to consider surgery, with all the risks, complications, and life changes associated with it as EASY. TBH, I'm more terrified of considering surgery than I am of remaining obese forever.... So that does that tell you?? I think the hard part of this journey for all of us is changing the way we think... Changing the mindless behaviours, the fears, the rewards, the pleasure to fuel consumption, the binging, the soothing, the EVERYTHING about food... It seems impossible when we don't tear it down to small, manageable pieces...

That being said, Julie, you go kick some bootie today....neveryoumind what some sad scared little person is facing within themselves, you do what you need to do for you, and to hell with everyone else!!

Waves to Cari, too!! Sending smiles and hugs your way!!

We watched a couple new shows last night, and I'm totally addicted. The second one was way better than the first one. Second one was Scorpion - about geniuses with limited social abilities having to join together and function well as an elite emergency response team. The first one was Gotham, and we were pleasantly surprised. We were worried it would be too overdone, but they kept it nice and blisterlingly dark, as it was originally written.

Oldies but goodies we watch: NCIS, NCIS: LA, not excited about NO exactly. Supernatural. Anything Gordon Ramsey (Masterchef just ended but Hell's Kitchen is just starting up...and Hotel Hell is on hiatus ATM). Arrow, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods. And of course, we love MASH...there were some other shows in the mix, but I'm not sure what is returning to the line-ups... Big Bang Theory - new or old, is ALWAYS a good option!

I watched Scorpion last night too and I really liked it. We record a lot of tv. Most of the time we will watch a couple of episodes and then dvr the rest for a marathon when there is nothing to do. We do watch a few shows immediately though like Walking Dead, Arrow (Oliver belongs with Felicity I don't care what anyone else says) and Agents of Shield. We watched a couple of episodes of Utopia and I just really can't get into it. It seems too scripted to be real. Lots of dramatization going on.

We had to stop watching as much food network as we were...way to much temptation there.

Julie--there's going to be a Grumpy Cat movie on lifetime in November. I'm so excited. My cat makes the same face (and is actually very grumpy) and I told my boyfriend we should put Raisin on the internet before GC was around....talk about a missed opportunity. Where are my internet millions?!

I wish I didn't like TV as much as I do. I feel like there's at least 2 shows a night that we have to watch or catch up on on the weekend...mindy project, brooklyn nine-nine, parks and rec, parenthood....and that's not even what's on netlfix. TV and my working out are not friends. Hoping to do better this season. Also, there's always so much good food they're eating in like every scene, which immediately makes me want whatever they're having.

BTW--sorry about the negative vibes coming from that person about surgery being the "easy way out". I wish I could be the ghost of gastric bypass surgery past and bring them to my mother 9 years ago when she was laid up from the super invasive, super serious procedure and crying all night in pain. And then the following 6 months when she was constantly throwing up as she adjusted to her new stomach and dizzy and weak. Easy way out? Yeah, okay. What works for some does not work for all.
