Nightmares?

I almost hate to admit this but, I've had nightmares every night since I've been home after my surgery. I chalked it up to the Hydrocodone I was taking for pain, but I switched to Tylenol liquid on Friday and am still having them. I also notice that I'm in quite a bit of pain when I'm awakened by the bad dreams. Have any of you had this problem?

    Hi
I would have automatically said that it relates to something with medication - is that the only medication you are on? I have very lucid dreams, talk in my sleep, kick my poor fiance because I move around a lot and that happens in relation to medication.

If it is a nightmare I think the pain in your tummy would be expected because we are very tense when we are scared, I am not sure if your body releases adrenaline while dreaming like it would when you are awake and afraid, because that tends to decrease pain.

If the tylenol you are taking has any amount of codeine in it then it is also an opiod (like hydrocodone). I just googled it says Tylenol 3 has some codeine in it. You may be reacting to the opiod maybe talk to a pharmacist about what you can use for pain relief that doesn't contain any?

    Hope it gets better

Hi Cathie: Not sure if this is relevant or not, but my friend had RNY a year ago next month and has had terrible nightmares since not long after her surgery and unfortunately they have not stopped nor improved. At first they thought maybe it was her new CPAP machine that was causing it, however she doesn't use the machine anymore. I wish you all the best.

I am right there with you. I have had unsettling dreams ever since my sleeve in July. I am only on the Ursodiol and Prilosec, and the vitamins. Sometimes they are full on Nightmares, sometimes its just uncomfortable dreams that make me upset, but I haven't slept right in 2 months..

Have either the OP or Stef mentioned these nightmares to your doctors? Maybe there is something to it? I feel for both of you, all the best.

Thanks for responding ladies. Stef, I'm sorry to hear that you have the same problem. I'm a lucid dreamer, too, and one of the most disturbing aspects of my bad dreams is that I know that I don't like where they're going but can't stop them and worse, on several occasions couldn't wake myself up. You know that terrible struggle when you want to wake and can't. It's like being pulled under water every time you struggle to get to the surface. Asis, I'm sorry to hear that your friend has this problem, too.
Qski, I'm taking regular over the counter Tylenol, so I don't think that's it but I think that you may be right. I take Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and suspect that my dose is too strong now that I've lost weight and am eating so little. I'm supposed to have labs in a couple weeks but if I keep having this problem I may call my doctor and get them done sooner.
