1RM Testing?

How often does your box do 1RM testing? I think ours does it 2-4x/year. Since a lot of the strength moves and even metcon weights are based on a percentage of your current 1RM. We are testing this week and my numbers are kinda funky, I think.

Back Squat: 205 (I recently switched to high bar from doing low bar for years, so still getting a handle on technique. My actual max is probably more like 225 as I just barely missed 230)
Snatch: 105 (this is a power snatch and I should have been able to get at least 110-115 but kept making mental errors)
Press: 100 (I feel like this is way too close to what I can snatch, lol)
C&J will be tonight. I don't know what to expect since I've never pushed myself with these and my best is 110, again power clean
Deadlift is 285, I can probably do 290-295+ when healthy

Not part of our current testing but tested on my own recently:
Bench Press: 170
Front Squat: 185
Sumo DL: 305

We do it every 12 weeks because that is the length of our strength cycles. We start the cycle with super high rep stuff and then work down in reps/up in weight as we get closer to testing week. During our testing week we do crossfit total and oly total, its a nice way to check progress on a regular basis.

Depends. We do a number of strength cycles throughout the year and will test those, but ultimately we do a lot more working on complexes and 3RM hang power snatches or some such, you know? We always work off a percentage of our 1RM as well, and do a lot of building using EMOMs and 5 sets of 5 at 75%, then 3 sets of 3 at 85%, and so on.

My 1RM clean is 135, jerk is 120, DL is 200, back squat is 185, OHS is 90 (but that was almost a year ago--probably quite abit more now), front squat is 155, strict press is 85, snatch is 85. Snatch is mental for me...

We also do max effort testing a couple times a year--handstand pushups...I think I'm at 10-12 now, PullUps 10-12, Box Jump 32.5 inches, etc.

Our box works to 8-10 week strength cycles and we tend to alternate our 1RM testing each cycle so that one cycle we'll do the lifts on separate days, and the next cycle we'll do Crossfit Total and oly lifting total. This past cycle, more than 50% of members hit new PRs!

My clean technique needs a lot of work. I got 135 on C&J yesterday but I definitely could have jerked at least 150. I decided to go ahead and test DL tonight because I'm angry and that usually means DL PRs heh

I'm basically in the same spot with you on all my lifts, except I'm more shoulder dominant and have a stronger press and weaker bench. Feel you on the clean. I have been stuck on 125 as a working weight for about 6 months and get a 135 every once in a blue moon but my jerk is probably about 150 right now. The rest of my lifts are basically where yours are. My box doesn't test very often. We test before a strength cycle on a particular lift and after and do the total about once a year. I test my own though at my Barbell Club practices every once in a while.

    Kelly,

I just looked at all the 1RM's listed in your profile and yeah, we are totally neck and neck for most of them! My best bench was 140 and not really improving until I did a dedicated 10 week program to bring it up, so that pretty much explains the difference there. And with OH press I really never trained them much before starting CF so I'm sure some of it is just time in the trenches; I think I've only ever done strict BB presses twice before and once was in Foundations with like 35#. Of course, your conditioning and muscle endurance is much better than mine based on the WODs you've posted!

Time to go DL now ;-)
