One of those days?

This morning I just couldn't lift. I just struggled. I struggled with weights and moves I've done before. I just didn't have any strength.
I'm new to weight-lifting and am hoping that veterans will advise that sometimes this just happens. Is there such a thing as just "one of those days"? Or is the stark truth that I'm just a failure at weight lifting?

Oh yeah, trust me, they happen. Could be lack of sleep, stress, nutrition the day before, the stupidest thing sometimes. Your head,s just not in the game, or your body just doesn't feel right. You got a cold coming on or other physicological issues. It all adds up. It can all affect you. Some days are just bad.
You just go through these the best you can and tell yourself the next one will be better. Just don't give up on yourself0 -
I've definitely had those type of days before. I just try to finish my sets and do what I can. You are not a failure at lifting!0

I had one of those days on Tuesday. Too much stress + not enough sleep = fail, fail, fail. Just keep working at it, though. Next time will almost certainly be better.0

Yep, it happens. I'll kick *kitten* one session, then the next workout I won't be able to get the bar up on a warm-up weight. I also had a bad day Monday, my head just wasn't in it.0

it's nice to hear that even the superheroes in this subforum have those days too. some days i leave the gym just feeling completely discouraged about the whole thing. it can feel like i don't get it, can't do it, and i'm just generally going in circles with it.
they come and go ;-) i guess the main thing i do is try to wipe my mind clean every time i go back. it seems like i never know when i go in whether it's going to be a Sucks Day or a Rocks Day, so i guess my general strategy is to just act like it makes no difference either way anyway. i party it up on the days that go well, and on the days that don't i kind of shift my perspective to 'i'm a person who lifts regularly' instead of 'i'm a person who just lifted this much.'
like the difference between climate and weather, you know? i just pick whichever perspective will keep me happy :laugh:0 -

Last week friday i had one of those days, warmups were heavier than normal. The whole week prior i was hitting PRs on almost all lift. Its frustrating but it happens, more than we like.0 -
Thank you lovely people for your honesty and encouragement.0

i think i'm about to go and have one of those days, right now.
le sigh. i just don't want to deal with this whole squat-form thing.0 -
Yes they happen. They can be really demotivating. Sometimes they're an anomoly and you pick up after but if you keep having them, you may be due for a few days off.0

Psych suggested the same thing on the September thread MissH.
I'm slowly getting my head around the idea of no cardio or yoga (due to work) or weights for the rest of the week!0 -

Doesn't it feel weird to truly take time off and not be on vacation or something? It's nice but also strange, I find.0 -
I think tonight I'm aware of just how tired I am. I've been blaming it on train travel and nights in hotels (like tonight) but I am wondering if it's been due to exercise. I haven't had more than two days away from the gym, I think, since I joined it in May.0
