Negative Calories question

I have my Fitbit synced to MFP and have the negative calories option selected. But I'm noticing that it's taking calories from me pretty early in the day. Today for example, I took it off of sleep mode at 5:45am and by 7am I had gone 1000 steps but it took over 100 calories away from me already! Is that right? I am not sure if I have a setting wrong. It's set to the proper time zone and I always enable and disable sleep mode. Is it supposed to take calories away from you before you've even really started the day? (sorry if this is a dumb question!)

    Its normal.

MFP assumes your hourly burn rate will be consistent all day long. Such as if MFP projects you'll burn 2000 then it expects you to burn 2000/24 each hour. But in reality - you're burning very little while you're sleeping and get your burn in during your waking hours. Say 8am-10pm. So you'll always start behind, but it should get better as the day goes on.

What I do: I have a daily calorie burn (total) goal of 2000 and know my BMR is just below 60 calories per hour. So when I'm ready to be done for the day, I look at my Fitbit to see calories burned and then estimate what my BMR will use. Such as I like to be over 1800 by 9pm as that will put me ~2000 for the day.
