Week 4 Informational (10/3-10/10)

Week 4 Informational
This week marks the end of the first month of our diet and fitness promotion! We are one third of the way through!

We are going to do something different this week. I want you to focus on lifestyle changes and how they will positively impact your life. In order to have long-term positive health benefits, one must engage in daily practices and food choices that contribute to good weight loss, maintenance and disease prevention.

The Mediterranean Diet, which has often been referred to as the perfect diet, is not a fad diet, or a crash diet. The Mediterranean diet is a lifestyle. It is the lifestyle lived daily by people living around the Mediterranean sea.

Components of the Mediterranean diet are:
Lots of:
olive oil
Fish
Nuts
Vegetables
Fruits
Whole grains....

Limited:
Sweets
Meats
Eggs....

and

Moderate wine intake...

…While also eating less per portion than Americans and also daily physical activity

This lifestyle is protective against disease! Without really trying, these people have adopted a lifestyle over the millennia that is healthy. There is no doubt that our American lifestyle is NOT doing the same for us!
Our equivalent for this diet is MyPlate.gov, which tells you how much to eat and what type of foods to maximize your nutrition and minimize empty calories.

Your goal for this week is to go eat the “MyPlate” Your plate should look like this:

Also, you can go to this webage and My Plate will give you a meal plan after putting in your information:

We will talk more about ideas how to follow a healthy diet following these guidelines next week!

Feel free to post any comments, any personal goals, or anything you would like to share in a response to this discussion.

Best of luck!
