Advice on which slow cooker to get

There was a topic in the group about which slow cooker to buy but it was active more than two years ago and the thread is now closed. I'd love to buy in a programmable slow cooker but they all seem to be 6 quart size and ideally I'd like the 4 quart as that should be enough for my needs but they don't seem to do programmable ones at that size. This will be my first slow cooker purchase - I know, I know, so I really want to pick the right one.

Any ideas or suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks for your help.

Edit:- actually the group looks like it's gone quiet for over a year so maybe no-one is active here anymore. I'll wait and see. Fingers crossed!

Not sure if you are still monitoring this but here goes my opinion.

I'd go for a 6 quart regardless... A larger size will give you more options of what you can do with it. You can make a little more food and freeze some if needed. There's really not much diff in size so I'd opt for the larger simply based on having more options.

Ours are Rival. They seem to last a long, long while.

I have 3 slow cookers - 4, 5, & 6 quart. The smaller one is a Hamilton Beach, I believe. Th3 5 quart is Crock-Pot brand SCRP500-SP 5-Quart Smudge Proof Slow Cooker. It is my favorite. I have no idea on the large one. The two smaller are programmable. If I need to program the large one, I just have a $3 light timer that I plug it in to. Since hubby gets home before I do, it works great for us.

The 6 quart is really too big for us now since all of the kids are gone. I much prefer the smaller ones.

I have 2 slow cookers. Both are rival brands I believe. One is a 4 quart and one is 6 quart. I mostly use the 6 because I can cook most anything in it and gave enough for all 4 of us. If I know it's for a side dish or something like that I'll use the smaller but I like the bigger. Also make sure you get one that is dishwasher safe cause sometimes it's hard to get some stuff off and it's nice to be able to throw it in the washer and let it clean it for you. ;) I also have a little bitty one for dips and such but I rarely use it.

Hope this you and I hope this group becomes active again. I love using the slow cooker because we have a very busy family and it's nice to know that when I get home from a long day I don't have to worry about dinner cause its already done.
