I'm in the market for a new Crock-Pot. There are so many new designs, styles and gizmos attached nowadays that I want to make sure I pick a good one but the choice is so over-whelming. Some allow you to sauté and brown food like meat and onions right in the crock-pot which I think is a great idea but with so many on the market which is the best one, which features are more gimmicky than functional?

Thank you so much for posting the link summerluno. I've been hunting through the heaps of croc-pots trying to find one smaller than 6 qrt side and closer to the 4 qrt size but with programmable features. The smaller ones never seem to offer that function. Going to make a top 5 to choose one once I've compared all the features and yours just made my list.

This is the other contender on my list http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EZI26GO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2YUR9SUWJSLT4&coliid=I2VNDU6S7R9Z43&psc=1

PROS - Great price. I like the fact that you can also cook using the thermometer probe which displays the actual temperature of meat as it cooks. You can tell it to stop cooking when it reaches the temperature inside the meat.

CONS - they only offer this one in 6 qrt size as programmable and I would prefer a 4 qrt. It doesn't allow you to saute or brown meat before slow cooking.

After months of research, scouring the pros and cons and reading many reviews my new slow cooker is going to be the Hamilton Beach Set n Forget Programmable slow cooker so looking forward to cooking some great food with the holidays and festive season fast approaching.

I'll report back on how it performs once I've had it a while.

Do you have one of these? I'd love to hear your experiences.

If not, what cooker do you have? Traditional, one of the newer programmable models, Dutch oven...there are so many to choose from. I can see me having more than one in the future.

It arrived yesterday and I'm really looking forward to my first meal from it. Now I just need to decide what to make first!

So, our first recipe in the new shiny slow cooker was Sausage and vegetable gumbo. Delicious.
