Hiya Pam! I guess when I'm "on" I'm Primal. I do allow a little bit of dairy in. Unfortunately it's been awhile since I was "on." Trying to get back on track as of this week.0
-
I'm still trying to figure all of this out. It is hard being a picky eater, and I kinda love cheese...0
-
I am a paleo eater out of necessity..0

I'm not strictly anything either. I guess I follow 80/20 as much as I can. I allow dairy in form of some cheese & greek yogurt. Every now and then I'll have some couscous, or quinoa, sometimes a spoonful of the kids pasta, but I try to steer clear of grains in general. I do focus on calories and macros. I try to get at least 100+ grams protein/ 50-80 grams CHO/ and I try to stay LF because higher fats just don't seem to work well for me.0

Whoa! Cool group! :drinker:
Is it just me or does all of a sudden the whole site looks completely different? When did that happen?
I am (still) doing 40/40/20 - trying to eat as healthy as possible but not really following Primal or any particular plan right now. I really try to hit my macros most importantly.
We're getting into the time of year where I start being a little lax about nutrition...I'm also taking a Crossfit break until January, but I am still running and doing my own workouts 4-5 times a week.0 -
I'm doing primal, still like to eat greek yogurt occasionally and cream in my coffee, trying to keep my nutrition compliance at around 85% and CrossFit 3x a week.0
-
Doing Paleo and have lost 35 lbs since I started. Also doing Crossfit 5 - 6 times a week.0
-
On a "clean" eating binge - eating carbs, protein, and fat at every meal. Still have dairy in the form of greek yogurt and cottage cheese. But other than that, and occasionally deli meat for convenience, i'm doing unprocessed food 85% of the time. The 15% cheats are primarily from a glass of wine and a trip to starbucks a couple of times.
On week 2 of this. Started 4 weeks ago, but week 2 ended up on a business trip for 4 days that killed it. Feeling great so far.0 -
Ugh. Typically do Zone. Lately, I've been "doing" Halloween candy. Tomorrow is my typical weigh in day so hopefully back "in the zone" as of tomorrow.
The day after Thanksgiving, my box starts a paleo challenge that lasts through Christmas eve. That will be TOUGH. But good, as the holidays are always a bit of a free-for-all for me.0 -

That is awesome - congrats! Are you doing strict paleo?0 -

Yes, for the most part. I do whey protein shakes after working out which isn't paleo and the occasional piece of chocolate. Other than that it's stricly Paleo.0 -
I am struggling with my nutrition right now. I was eating mostly Paleo (80/20 or so). But I think I was eating way too many nuts and dried fruit for snacks and in meals. Going to try an stay with Paleo, but focus more on veggies and lean proteins. I get about 100+ grams of protein a day, 5-6 small meals. I do Muscle Milk as a post workout drink. Not paleo, but think it is good for my recovery. Breakfast I have a Shakeology, again not Paleo, but works for my long commute in the morning. So there is definately tweaking to do. Dinner is my hardest meal. After a long day of work, workouts and travel, I have hit the bottom of my gas tank and ready to eat and go to bed.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has to say about food! It is really what makes the difference in everything!0 -
Ive been reading info from MMA fighter Mike Dolce. Hes known for cutting the weight of the fighters like it was clay on a block. Im wondering if a combo of his food ideas and crossfit might be a good match. Its healthy food, and worth a shot.0

Nutrition just fascinates me and love reading what everyone else eats or doesn't eat. For some long I tried to balance a good ratio of carbs/protein/fats, but been doing this 4-week nutrition course and really more "listening" to my body and honoring hunger, instead of just eating every 2 to 3 hours, as I typically have been. It's amazing how strong I feel, even if I don't eat for 4 hours, as I've always been conditioned to eat ever 2 to 3 hours.
I focus mostly on real foods...no processed foods, coffee, sugar or alcohol (love my wine). These past 4 weeks have been a fun journey, so plan to continue the eating plan beyond. I feel I've gained a ton of strength in my CrossFit workouts too!
Basically it just focuses on "real" food, so if I want dairy, it's full fat, if I want grains, it's "Old world grains", not the processed oats that are on the shelves. Very interesting journey I've been on.0 -
Going with 80% paleo -20%, low glycemic carbs
No dried fruits or juices
Also doing some metabolic retrainig with my calorie count.0 -

I think if I honored my hunger I would be eating ALL THE TIME! I too am just fasciated by nutrition and always trying to gain more information, make better choices and see what works for me. Everyone is different. How do you keep things in check? I understand real foods, I do the same, but I think I could get carried away even with real foods.0 -
Our box is doing a paleo / zone seminar today in preparation for our paleo challenge between Thanksgiving and Christmas. To get a headstart, I got back in the Zone for the last week and have dropped 2 lbs. WHILE eating oatmeal and rice (no gluten). More importantly, I feel like my workouts have benefitted from the fuel. There's something to be said for balance. I'll let you know what comes of the seminar.0

It's definitely a learning curve and one that I'm still working on finding my groove. But what I've found out about myself, is that my head tells me I'm hungry more than my body does. So it's a lot mental. I've learned to know what triggers my hunger (stomach, headache, mood, etc) and feed myself accordingly. But since I've focused on having more nutrient dense foods, I find my energy is up, stronger in my workouts and don't have that late afternoon crash. I eat a lot of veggies and LOVE having sweet potato, even for breakfast. Hearty soups really keep me going and not "wanting to eat". Which is ODD for me. Honestly, in ditching the protein bars that I was so used to, I realized I was starving in an hour, as there was little to no nutritional value in them, plus a lot of fillers in most.0 -
I'm starting a Share your Food MONDAY. It's a good way to get back on track after a weekend of maybe, not being sooooo good - and will give other members ideas on what to prepare if we are not feeling that motivated.
I posted this morning's meal as my avatar...
2 egg white muffins with red pepper, bacon and franks red hots a side of sauteed garlic spinach and dollop of 1% cottage cheese.
<<in the oven>> Primal chocovanilla coconut bars
<<Lunch>> chicken breast, ruby red grapefruit & cole slaw
<<Dinner>> peppered pork strips with apple compote, cauliflower rice & oven roasted broccoli0 -
Im new to crossfit and I have had only 2 session but its enough to know Im in love with it.
What I need to nail down is the nutrition side of it as much as I do the physical training side.
So Im interested in any ideas and suggestion posted in this thread.
Ive noticed Ive been really hungry after training.0 -
I can't say I am total paleo but I do buy alot of organic foods to cook with. I use almond milk with protein shakes, but haven't gave up yogurt or cheese yet. Having a hard time with that and with bread. I like a thin bagel with my chickent at lunch. Basically now that Thanksgiving is over I am back to eating healthy and healthy snacks.. no more pies, cookies or mashed potatoes. lol.. And back to limited alcoholic beverages...Work christmas function is Friday, so I will be consuming then0

How is shakeology working for you? A woman contacted me after the South Georgia Throwdown about testing it and writing a review for CrossFit, but I told her I'd wait until after I got through the craziness of my move. Now that I'm moved I'm considering trying it out. My new work schedule has really hindered my ability to get enough food, so I thought this shake as a supplement may work well.0 -
BTW - on week 6 now of clean eating and have dropped 6+ lbs. After the 15 lbs I lost just from CrossFit about a year ago, I hit a plateau and haven't budged since. The adage is true - you cannot exercise away a poor diet. My friend Luan always tells me "let CrossFit be your vehicle and Paleo be your fuel"0

I aim for at least 120grams of protein per day, more if possible, I focus on complex carbs and healthy fats. I'm eating about 2000 cals per day at the moment, trying to get in lots of veggies.0
