Eating with your eyes

One of my biggest problems is eating with my eyes. I let my eyes tell my stomach that it needs more food than the little food that on my plate so I add more only to relize that I had enough in the first place, but now that I have extra I have to eat it too so that I don't waste food. Anybody have any pointers on how to over come this?
