Winter Training Setups

I finally have my trainer set up and rode a while last night. I know to be effective, I need a training video but there are so many! I have been looking at a lot of them but I have no idea which one to try. They are more expensive than regular workout dvd's so I really don't want to buy one just to find out it sucks. Any more recommendations?
It might be easier for people to recommend something if you could give some Idea of what kind of workouts you're looking for - are you looking for something that's high intensity intervals - or something that's good to pass a couple of hours of base level tempo riding - or do you really want to work on climbing power - or - something that's good for all that...
Have a look on http://www.turbotraining.co.uk/ - there are loads of different training plans, for specific types of workouts, and a "player" that will tell you how hard you should be going, what gear/resistance/pulse rate/power outputs etc.
If your doing a short, high intensity workout, you don't necessarily need a video - you'll probably going too hard to see the screen clearly anyway... Fancy rigs like mine tend to come into their own if you're stuck riding the trainer for 2 months due to the weather.
I'll be stuck on the trainer until probably April. :ohwell: I really want to maintain my endurance and gain some climbing strength. I have to be ready to ride Moab by March. I guess I would like something along the lines of a spinning class with intervals and hill climbs. I don't want to have to be on the trainer for hours at a time.0 -

I am quite pleased with "A Very Dark Place", a Sufferfest video, recommended to me by by zoom2: http://www.thesufferfest.com/video-sufferfests/a-very-dark-place/ It's an 11.99 download. I put it on a USB drive and plugged it into my TV (which has a USB port), so I can use my TV remote to control playback, volume, etc., although once I start a workout, I really don't mess with it, usually gasping for breath and drinking water is all I can do. If you have a laptop, PC or home network it's viewable that way too.
I have found that having the trainer definitely helps, the spin class I go to helps too, but I'm also trying to get out and ride a lot more than I have in winters past. The mountain bike helps. My spin instructor (finally found a good one who is worth every penny of the additional cost I am absorbing) is also going to set up a "trainer class" where students bring their trainers and bikes in to do some group work, taught by him. I will post on that experience here once I do it.
Hang tough and mad happy insane spinning SG!0 -

Hi
How come you are stuck on it until spring... Is it extreme weather where you are?
Just asking because I think there is no real substitute for getting road miles in your legs. Trainers can be good for short intense spells of time and (as I am finding out currently) spinning is awesome.0 -

I live in Colorado so most of the winter I will be off the bike. There are a few times I will be lucky enough to have nice weather and dry roads but I can't count on it. I go to spinning class every Wednesday and I am looking in to another class on Saturdays. I just bought the Global Ride: Hawaii 3 disc set yesterday so I'll see how that is. The good news is I did a half hour standing climb in class yesterday so I haven't lost too much strength from the summer.0 -

Daaamn, 30 mins solid standing climb sounds hardcore! Well done on that one.0 -

I just did a long standing climb in spin last night too...it was probably 30 mins...I wasn't watching the clock, but the coach was, I will have to ask him how long that was in my next class with him. It was KILLAH.0 -
