Since everyone here is in the Phoenix area I'm hoping you can help me find a doctor. I need to see an endocrynologist. I have been struggling to lose weight and am on a losing battle. I do know that weight gain runs in my family. My dad gained a lot of weight in his 30s and my brother and I both gained in our 20s. When I started gaining weight I was working a very physical job and was on my feet moving for 8 - 10 hours a day and was eating fairly healthy so I know it wasn't because of a change in my routine. I double in weight in about 3 years. I'd like to see an endocrynologyst to rule out anything genetic that could be contributing my gain and resulting battle. Does anyone know a good one they would reccomend?

Good luck to everyone in your weight loss/maintenence!

this may seem blatantly obvious but have you had your thyroid checked? i had mine checked and its made a world of difference. I have hypothyroidism. My GP did this.

Yep. That was the 1st thing both my GP and my OBGYN checked. There was also a year between the 2 tests and they both came back with nothing. PCOS has also been suggested to me. I haven't been checked for this but don't know enough about it to know if it can affect males as well since my dad and brother both had the same thing happen to them. I also know that aside from my weight my basic numbers are perfect. It's hilarious to go for a check-up and see the reactions on the faces of the people there when my blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar all come back perfect and no where near at risk. I think because of my weight they expect me to have issues with at least 1 of these but I don't. I'm healthy fat (with the exception of whatever is potentially causing the weight issue).

Keeping working to get to an endo if the PCP/GP Dr. can't find anything. I've heard that the basic level test that PCP/GP Dr's tend to send for aren't that thorough at finding thyroid issues. There are other levels they check too but usually only at endocrinologists. I can't get my insurance to send me to any of those for nothing. :( I mentioned PCOS to a PCP once and that was all he did a CBC, thyroid and cholesterol panels with fasting blood sugar trying to point it towards diabetes which I do not have in the slightest.

I've been tested many times and its normal and that is where the stop the testing and investigating. But in the past even when I eat low fat diet with calorie goals met and exercise 5 days a week I've had struggles where it just won't budge. I could attribute some of that to the fact I was not doing a very active job most of those times.
