Souls in Purgatory

Have any of you read the book Hungry Souls? What did you think? Have you experienced souls in your house? We've has a few instances that have prompted us to pray for them.
1. We had a perfectly round bubble floating through our house (it would duck under doorways and follow us around, never popping). When I lifted up the crucifix it popped.
2. Hubby and I were watching a movie and heard footsteps coming down our stairs. Thinking it was one of our kids I said "get back to bed". There was no movement, no going up the stairs noise so hubby got up to make them go upstairs but not a single child was there. We went to look in their rooms to see if there was rustling, nope, they were sound asleep and hadn't moved from when they went to sleep.

I haven't read that book, but I have a story my mom always tells, and has told since as long as I can remember.

We lived in an old two-story house with hard wood floors when I was little. One of my little sisters was born very sick and almost died. When she was 9 months old (I was 4 and my other sister was 3), my mom heard footsteps running around upstairs. She thought my sister or I was running around. She went upstairs to scold us, but found us sound asleep. She went to check on the 9 month old, and she was choking on her own spit up. If my mom hadn't checked on her, she would have died. My mom believes there were kind souls saving my sister.

It is always a good idea to ask the parish priest to come and bless your house when you move in. He will come with special prayers and sprinkle holy water throughout the house. It is an important sacramental.

Ours was built new and we've had it blessed twice (we love our blessings) :)

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you mean but I've had several experiences with strange occurrences.

Years ago when I was young, I could hear my parents downstairs talking. At the same time, I heard footsteps walking up the stairs and along the corridor. The footsteps stopped outside my bedroom door. Nobody else would have been walking upstairs other than my parents.

Not long after my father died, I awoke one morning to the feeling of somebody sitting on the end of my bed. I looked and couldn't see anybody there. My cat walked into the bedroom, stopped and started staring at the end of the bed where I could feel the weight pressing down on the bed. Every so often the cat would look at me with a puzzled look on his face and then start staring at the end of the bed again. This kept going on for several minutes until I felt the weight lift off the bed. As soon as it did, the cat looked at me and then walked out of the bedroom.

p.s. the house I grew up in was built around 1800.

Do you remember how you felt? Like, were you scared, or did you feel a sense of peace?

The time I heard the footsteps I was terrified. I nearly screamed the house down but I was only about 10 or 12 at the time.

The time I felt the weight on the bed, I didn't feel frightened. It was more a feeling of irritation "hey, I'm trying to sleep here and you're sitting on the bed".
I sort of felt that it was my father just checking in with me to let me know there was no ill-feelings between us. When I was younger and stupid, we used to argue a lot. After he died, I was very upset. I was afraid that he might have died thinking that I hadn't loved him.

....but now that you're older, you realize he absolutely knew you loved him!

Shortly after Dad died of cancer, my mother experienced a sense of my Dad sitting on the end of the bed. Her description was very similar to yours, about the pressure and the presence. She didn't share that with us for a long time, as she was afraid we'd think she was crazy! It gave her a great sense of peace and comfort.

I plan on looking for this book, thanks!

Yes, I have read that book. I have never had any experiences like yours, but I did have one once when I was young that scared me senseless. I was reading a book about demon possession, a fiction story that glamorized it, and while I was reading it, the crucifix that hung on the wall over my bed jumped off the wall! I threw the book away immediately. Then I went back and buried it under more trash for good measure.
