BBC News - Doctor Who 'to be made into Hollywood feature film' http://bbc.in/tBrnso
I heard this on the radio this morning and having read the news articles I don’t know whether to be excited or horrified.
David Yeats is quoted as saying: "Russell T Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch,"
Is he intending on reinventing the wheel... or maybe tell the story of the Doctor of his life on Gallifrey before he landed on Earth with Susan.
Now that could be an interesting take on things that could run concurrent with TV series, but as the Studios are apparently are looking for a new franchise to replace the Harry Potter cash-cow then it could even spell the death-knell to the Doctor’s adventures on TV... which would be wrong. It’s hard enough as we’re going to have to wait until next autumn for a new series without the thought that it might all end by 2015
It’ll be interesting to see what the hard-core Whovians make of this?0 -
We need to kill David Yates and eat the evidence before he goes too far0
-
I am willing to add it to my Food Diary and be sad about how over it is
Anything to keep Hollywood's grubby hands away from the BBC's greatest show
-shudders-
I'm surprised Stephen Spielbergh hasn't gobbled it up, aliens are his thang
Half expected Tim Burton wanting a goffic version as well
Spoilers: Johnny Depp is the Doctor and Helena Bonham Carter is his sidekick. The TARDIS is black and whenever they're inside it its stop motion
However since its David Yates we can safely assume the story will have the most important bits left out but the visual effects will be stunning0 -
So strictly speaking he is the lesser of all evils
Just enjoy your no-sense story0 -
Hence commences the sexualization of the characters and The Doctor boffing his companions.0

No matter how hard a tiny part of me is squealing in fangirl delight at the thought of a movie I just cannot evade the sense of doom that follows the statement:
"Russell T Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch," [Yates] said.0 -
hmmm... this isn't broken. i think we should FIX IT!!!0

Yeah, Yates, can go on...starting from scratch. yadda, yadda, yadda
BBC has said that Moffat and that BBC has the final word. End of discussion.
Though with rumours and Stephen even saying that he's not doing this forever, what is in store for us after the 50th Anniversary?
A black Doctor, a female Doctor?
Though, if there be a movie, I would like it to seam effortlessly into the current series and hopefully Matt Smith will do it. He has expressed interest in doing a Who movie0
