Hi everyone. I'd like to do some reading up about touring and basically looking for the "Bicycling touring for dummies" book. Some advice, stories and tips in a nice read. Any recommendations?

Hi Leila, I too am interested in touring. In terms of books, I haven't yet picked up any that are written specifically on that topic but I know there are probably a lot out there, and hopefully folks will post some recommendations for us here.
One online resource (among many I found) is Adventure Cycling Association at http://www.adventurecycling.org/. It might be a good start, there is a forum link with lots of input from riders there.
A book I am reading now, written by a guy who has cycled around the world, is "It's All About The Bike," by Robert Penn. It's basically the story of how he goes about building his "dream bike" but he includes some snippets of his past rides. It's not a "Touring for Dummies" book but it's a fun read!
I am basically at the point of taking in all kinds of input on touring, from fellow cyclists in the club I am in, to my bike mechanics who know all too well how I can beat up on equipment, to the internet forums, gathering bits and pieces here and there. I hope to have my bike built next year sometime, and I am already planning routes.
Good luck and happy tailwinds!0 -
Loved the Rob Penn book... the bits about the frame - getting it custom made at Brian Rourke's shop rang a bell with me - my first 753 racing frame was made by Rourkey0
