Red hair

I don't dye my hair much and was wondering if anyone had some opinions on me going red. I have naturally brown hair with a bit of auburn. I have read that red can be harder to take care of but I have kind of always wanted to try it at least once. I'm adding pics for a better visual.
Here are some pictures of me:
Here is the red that I like:
So, do you think I could? Would I have to go for a darker red? If I do decide to dye I'm not going to try to do it myself. I guess it will be kind of a reward for doing a good job with my weight loss. .

Your natural hair color is so pretty! I think the red would look beautiful on you to though I like the red you picked, it would go good with your complexion0

I think that shade of red would look great with your skin tone. I've never heard that red hair is harder to care for so good luck with that!0

Red hair would look fantastic on you, but it is harder to maintain. Red hair color fades very fast. So unless, you don't mind dying your hair every 6 weeks, not shampooing as often, or using color maintenance products, it might not be the perfect long term color for you. Maybe go red for a few months and switch back to brunette?0

^^^This! I have been red many times in my life & it is quite the project to maintain! I have hair down to my rear & it is too expensive to get professionally done. I usually have my friend or my Hubby help! :bigsmile:0 -

Couldn't agree more! LOVED my redish colored hair. If only it would stay that way for long!
I think you would look great with that color by the way0 -
Yes! I think it would go fantastic with your skin tone. The only thing is, it really doesn't stay very long. I usually dye my hair a burgundy colour and it fades almost to what it was before in just 3 weeks.0

I have had my hair sooooo many different colors that I've had my stylist wonder why it's never been damaged, lol. That said, over the summer, I had that exact shade of red on my hair, only I had some blonde highlights worked in, and I LOVED IT!!!
But as stated above, it looks amazing for 2 weeks, nice for the third, and brown for the fourth. I couldn't get it to stop fading.
Out of frustration, I dyed it "darkest brown" which looks "nearly black" on me, lol! And I am keeping it and thinking of going totally black, haha.
Notice the blonde in my profile picture? Yeah, I dye my hair A LOT. :laugh:0 -
Has anyone tried any of the shampoos that are made specifically for red hair. To help prolong the color? I'm not planning on keeping it red for a long time, just for some fun for a while. But if I can help reduce the amount of fading that would be great.0

I used this expensive one from Matrix that also had a matching conditioner that looked like a tube of toothpaste. I think it helped a little, but not enough for me to spend the money on it. When I did red, I made a habit of going back to the salon every 4 weeks. I can go much longer with other colors without a re-touch, but not red.0 -
It would look beautiful on you, but like everyone said, it fades really fast! I have been every color, do it all myself....currently I am a reddish/purple.....and have to dye it every 2 weeks to keep it vibrant.....as for washing, I normally only wash my hair every 3 or 4 days, but I always do that no matter the color, since I change it so much it helps to keep it healthy by not washing as much.....
I love red hair though, you should do it!0 -
That would look gorgeous on you!0

Go for it! Hair dye is really easy to change back if you don't like it, so it's low risk.
And hopefully the hairdresser can guide you towards a flattering shade. I'm dark brunette with pale skin, so cool reds are best for me. I'd love an orangy-ginger, but it'd look horrible as it's a warm colour.
I haven't found colour specific shampoo to help much, but it's worth a go if it's not too expensive.0
