Hi everyone I’ve just joined this group, I’ve got a cheap old mouton bike I got a good few years ago now when I started to lose weight after my first child and have been on and off riding ever since but normally always go out with my daughter in her trailer every now and then…
My partner liked the idea so he got a really nice expensive bike and he went out on it once for 30 mins and hasn’t used it again it was about 1 year ago now I think I don’t know the name of it or anything...
Anyway recently I’ve started going out more on my own while by kids are at school for about 1 – 2 hours up a very long bike/walk way fru a forest and its known for proper bikers to go up and down there and I get embarrassed riding along slowly ( slower than them) with my little cheap bike loam
But still love it I feel great after it and its great to just have time to your self thinking about nothing...
My big brother is home from the navy today and we are going up there again he always gets me to go faster and not to stop when I’m dying lol and he’s jogging
Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself a bit

Hiya Kimberley, and welcome! I can't think of a better way to spend time than to be on a bicycle. May you continue to find joy, health and wonder in it, and be safe out there!
Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike. ~ John F. Kennedy0 -
Nice quote....
though I think I marginally prefer...
When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. ~H.G. Wells0 -
"Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel...the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood."
~Susan B. Anthony
Kim, I think YOU deserve a nice, new, $$ bike! You've already proven that it's something you'll use. And a lighter-weight bike with better components will allow you to go faster. :bigsmile:0 -
Well yous like your quotes hehehe they are good though I like them all
Yeah mine is very heavy I lifted his bike up the other day to move it out the way of mine and its super light considering it’s bigger than mine...
And its purple I like purple but it’s a man’s bike and too big for me lol

Hiya Kim, I have been on MFP for 266 days; most of my excess weight was lost during that time, and a little bit just before. I have learned it is really not how fast I lose it, but that I just keep making progress, and approach it as a lifestyle change, not a diet. You can do it! Keep it up and let nothing stop you!
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving. ~ Albert Einstein0 -
Welcome Kim!
Sell the unused bike and get yourself a nicer one.
Something you can do to improve the feel of your old MTB is to change the tyres, get some slicks on there, or partial slicks if you do some green lane riding, and then pump them tires up to a higher pressure, your old bike will feel so much quicker, with smooth hard tyres on it!
Get the bike tuned up too, make sure things are lubed and working well.
Cheers!0 -
broadsword7- yeah that’s true lifestyle change
StuAblett Selector - thanks I will do that I think I need a bike book for dummies for xmas lol it’s covered it mud atm0 -
Don't ever be embarrassed about riding slow. An old man like me with poor eyes can't see you faster girls anyway. :-) Just kidding. But slow, fast, in between who cares? You are out there and that is what counts.
I am much like you in the fact that I started out with an old Mountain bike March of 2010. At 305 slow is what I was. You will gain speed with weight loss and time. I loss 84 pounds. Find some local groups to ride with if you can. Riding with them is extremely fun and you will pick up the pace as you ride with them. And there is nothing better and cooler looking that a good pace line. And yes, you are ready for a nice road bike. You will gain 2 mph alone right there.
Don't be afraid to ask questions here when it comes to getting a new bike and other than that, just ride, just ride.0
