So I log on to facebook this morning, a little upset with myself that last weeks training was a rough one to find this message from my fellow runner Lawrence. I hope it helps you in some way.
'Hey Runner!! How are you today Amy? I want to share something with you that I experienced today during my first 26.2 marathon. Amazing experience and run this morning.
It was fun and I didn't run the time that I wanted but something were out of my control. I was blessed to see so many incredible Wear Blue: Run to Remember runners running their first half or 26.2. Andi Dornelas,Shella Schulze Hightower,Curtis Lawrence Jr,Daniele Nelson,Megan Easley,Ashleigh Nelson,Charissa Olson,Rita White,Danielle Joyce,Lisa Hallett and all the other runners Christian Swift, Paul Joyce,Tracey Furjanic Boyle,Erin Extent, Trevor Hopkins, Cindy Lee Kirker and the volunteers who braved the elements and held the flags at mile 19. Mile 19 was so moving I was actually crying when I saw my friends and family waiting for me and cheering me on and honoring the fallen soldiers.
I had a rough time running today at mile 15 I got leg cramps in my quads and in my calves it was so bad that at mile 20 I collapsed and fell to the ground. I didn't quit running and I never walked I kept telling myself "Long Distance Runners never quit or give up. WE run one mile at a time. I ran 8 miles with leg spasms and cramps and at mile 23 I was given salt tablets.
I am not making excuses for my run time but God was testing me to see if I wanted to be a long distance runner. I am sad to say that I am not a long distance runner and I am officially retiring from long distance running. As of today I am now a MARATHON Runner and I am proud to say I ran 26.2 miles in pain and I never quit!!!
Thank you to all the members of Wear Blue: Run to Remember who inspired me today to run through the pain and finish a full 26.2 marathon. Know that everyone who ran was giving it their all and 125% pushed me to the finish line. I look forward to running the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon on 19 Feb 12 and the John Hallett Memorial Ultra Marathon in late July. When I see everyone from Wear Blue: Run to remember run I see Champions and they run to honor and remember the fallen soldiers and loved ones who never made it home. Thank God for letting me be apart of something that is larger than me and life. Wear Blue: Run to Remember is a gift from God and I am truly blessed to run with everyone.

What I didn't write in my post was we call out the names of friends we have lost or that have died in combat. I call out three names MSG JD Davis and Green Beret buddy of mine killed in 2001 and 1Lt. Travis Manion and SSG Derek Farley he died on the operating room table on my forward surgical team on 17 Aug 2010. As I fell to the ground it was hard to get up and the other runners asked if I was okay. MSG JD Davis and SSG Derek Farley picked me up and JD said Long Distance Runners never quit or give up. Derek told me Run one mile at a time. I finished the run and it wasn't easy but I experienced a miracle today.'
