I suppose this can be a debate, but I just wanted a chance to share this young man's speech with you all:

  • What an amazing young man, well said. IMHO - everyone has a right to marry whom they love. Gays are created the same way straights are, one is just wired a little differently than the other. It doesn't make them less of a person. It is who they are and what they make of their life that counts. This young man would never existed if not for the desire of a couple to have a child.

Everybody knows that being heterosexual automatically makes you a good parent, right? DOOOHHH!

I know one family, a pair of guys with a son 8 and a daughter 2. They're doing fine, quite normal. Only thing a little sticky is - what do the kids call the parents? The couple I know, one is "Daddy" and the other is "Papa". Super excellent people, good providers, very loving.

Yes, it also means you have stronger marriages.

Quite an extraordinary speech - awe-inspiring, even. I'd be interested to see what he's doing in ten-fifteen years. Probably too nice for politics, but one can wish... I work in the arts and know a lot of families where the parents are gay. They are, without exception, some of the warmest and most solid families I know - perhaps because having children was never a choice that could be assumed, or fallen into, rather than deliberately and carefully decided. I always wonder if those who oppose gay marriage, or condemn homosexuals, have ever actually met, and had a conversation with a gay person?

I learned after seeing the video that he also has an IAMA (for you Redditors out there):

Watched it this morning. Love when he told the chairperson, "If I were your son, you would be very proud of me."

My ex husband was raised by his aunts who were lesbians. Without them, he would have had no one. They always lived in fear that someone would find out and take him away because they were lesbians.

That makes me really sad. :( I just don't understand how people could look down on someone because of who they love. like they had a choice in who they love to begin with.
