Ancient Aliens

Thanks to various books and TV shows like History Channels "Ancient Aliens" there is mounting support for not only the existance of ETs, but for their participation in earths history. Some theorists have even claimed that we were gentically engineered by aliens (Zecharia Sitchens).
Is this
A: Real
B: Sensationalism for ratings and money
C: Wishful thinking of people who want it to be true
The imagination of people who have turned from religion, but still want to believe in something bigger than themselves?
E: Anything else you can come up with
What are your thoughts?

Erich Von Daniken I curse you!!
A lot of what is out there right now is hogwash. Small snippets of truth given the proper spin. That's how all conspiracy theories work and the're very seductive. That's why the skeptics website I belong to (James Randi Educational Forum) calls them "woo".
I've gone in for this sort of thing, some of it seems to be pretty solid at first glance. The Nazca Lines confound me. The pyramids astonish me. You start to wonder how primitive people, who were wiping themselves with their hands, could accomplish such things.
But like I said, most of it just isn't true. It's sensationalized. Long debunked evidence is presented to a new audience.
Do I think it's possible life here may have began somewhere else? Absolutely! But I have my doubts that aliens visited us in our early history. If I doubt modern U.F.O. stories I especially doubt them from uneducated people in our past.0 -

I find it all very interesting, but I am also a skeptic. After watching many of the shows in Ancient ALiens, which I find awesomely entertaining, these Ancient Alien Theorists (as they like to be called) tend to view their evidence in the same light as many religious view miracles. Everything is a miracle. These AATs see aliens EVERYWHERE. It makes me skeptical.
As far as modern UFO sightings, I suggest the book UFOS, buy Leslie Kean. Very well researced with chapters written by government officials, Govenors, astronaughts and fighter pilots. There is never an assertion of little green men in the book, but she does (she is a respected reporter) present evidence that
A: For all it's bluster, the USA still invesitgates UFOs despite their claims otherwise.
B: Every other powerful, civilized nation like England and France and many others have whole agencies dedicated to UFO sightings.
C: That 90% of all UFO sightings are explainable as misidentified aircraft, whether or sky phenomena, comets, ect. But roughly 10% can not be explained and a portion of those have been identified as seemingly under intelligent control and defying traditional laws of aviation.0 -

I'm guessing you are refering to the South Park episode. That had to be the funniest one I had seen in a long time. I kept telling my wife "Get in here, this is hilarious, they are making fun of the History Channel!"0
