I don't know about meat and sugar, but chocolate and cheese have such a strong effect on brain chemistry that there are certain medications you can't combine with them. But the same applies to soy sauce and a whole lot of other foods vegetarians don't find offensive. Eating is necessary for survival, so it's not a surprise that food makes you feel good. But you need to be getting those types of good feelings from other things that promote survival, like exercise, creativity, propagating the species, prayer/meditation, etc. If the only source of endorphins and dopamine in your life is food, you've got a problem.
