I have my first Crossfit competition next weekend.

Good luck! I've never competed, but I've only been crossfitting 4 months. I definitely want to do a competition one day though! How long did you crossfit before you competed?

I did the South Georgia Throwdown as part of the Garage Games Series. I was in the scaled division - but RX and Scaled did the same wods, just at heavier weights

    WOD 1:
    5 Rounds:
    3 Power Cleans (105)
    7 Burpee Box Jumps (15")
    10 GHD Situps

    WOD 2:
    400 m run
    3 Rounds:
    3 Ground-to-Overhead (75)
    6 Lateral Bar Burpees
    9 Wall Balls
    400 m run

    WOD 3:
    7 min amrap
    Front Squat (65)
50 m prowler push - you did 1 front squat then moved the prowler, 2 front squats, pushed the prowler, 3 FS, prowler...for 7 min

    WOD 4:
10 min to find your 1 Rep max of:
    Deadlift
    Ground-to-OH

    WOD 5:
    10 min
    1500 m row
As many OH Squats (55) as you could do in the remaining time.

    The event was AWESOME.

I've also done a few smaller comeptitions hosted by a gym in Birmingham called IronTribe that were a blast.

    Tribal Quest

    WOD 1:
Unknown distance trail run w/a 20 hand release pushup buy-in

    WOD 2:
    2 min max Ground-to-OH (85)
    1 min rest
2 min max KB swings (35)
    1 min rest
    2 min max shuttle suns
    1 min rest
2 min max farmers carry (65# barbells in each hand - barbells are so much more difficult than kb)

    WOD 3:
    30 Back Squat (45)
40 Sumo Deadlift High Pull (45)
20 m. OH lunges with a paddle board OH
150 m run w/paddle board to the river
Paddle Board across the river and back
150 m run w/paddle board to the finish line

Ruben Studdard Fitness Festival Competition a couple of weekends ago

    WOD 1:
    150 m run
    40 thrusters (55)
    80 m OH lunges (25)
    40 KB Swings (35)
    50 m Farmers Carry w/KB
    40 SDHP (35)
150 m sprint to the finish

*4 burpee penalty if you ever set the weight down

    WOD 2:
3 min to find max Ground-to-OH
    1 min rest
    3 min max cal row
    1 min rest
3 min max box jumps (20")
    1 min rest
3 min max hand release pushups

So excited for you to do your first competition! They're truly addictive. Other than these 3 I started doing the little charity competitions, like FGB or Amazing Grace that boxes would host back in September of 2010. I'd traveled to several competitions to support members of my box, but was always too nervouse to compete. Finally this summer I said wth, just give in. Seriously! There's usually a scaled division, and people there will cheer you on because it's about the commoraderie, not where you place. At SGTD, I was being cheered on and coached by Brian Kost, Michael McGoldrick, SImon Nickerson and Justin Key, along with the World Camp CrossFit Team that competed at the Games this summer. These guys are at the top of the Garage Games series and are some serious athletes. Did they care that my best Ground-to-OH was only 105? No. Did they care that I was competing and having fun? You betchya. And I"m sure the same will be at your competition!

    Good luck!

Good luck and have a great time at the competition!

I'm thinking I might do the open part of the CrossFit games, but I'm not sure I stand a chance at Regional's (even just getting that far would be baller!). Although one of the members of my box is getting ready to open a new box...there is already talk of a friendly competition down the road and I definitely want to be involved!

Thanks everyone! I have been Crossfit-ing on and off for a few years, but have always been super active. I am VERY competitive, so that makes me even more nervous. I just want to know I gave my best. The competition is made up of 4 WODs with the top 10 doing a 5th. Here are the WODs:

WOD 1 - max ground to shoulders
    WOD 2 - 500m row, Fran, 150 DU with a 10 minute time cap
    WOD 3 - 2 min AMRAP Burpee
    2 minute rest
    WOD 4 - 5 minute AMRAP 10 kbs, 10 box jumps

WOD 5 will not be announced until the day of the competition

I have a hard time with Fran, that is the part I am most worried about. My hands are currently torn completely open, so trying to let those heal up best I can before the big day. I'll let everyone know how I did!

Saturday was my Crossfit competition, my very first one, group or individual. I was so nervous!!!

Survived the first 4 WODs, made it to the 10 ten WOD 5.

    WOD 5:

3 min AMRAP, rest 2 min
6 min AMRAP, rest 3 min
    9 min AMRAP

    20 cal row
    20 wall ball, 14#
    20 toes to bar
    20 HDHP, 53#
    20 OHS, 53#
    5 HSPU
10 Chest to bar pull up

Finished 6th overall! I am happy with that. I was against competitors that Crossfit everyday and have been for a long time. I am relatively new and only Crossfit once or twice a week.

Thanks for the encouragement and support. Blog post to come!

I did the Arizona Hammer Competition in Jan 2011.

I did the individual wod of:

    4 Rounds-

4 minutes each round w/1 minute rest between rounds.

Run 400m, then, in the remaining time in each round, complete as many reps as possible of:

    • Clean and Jerk -115# M/95# W (round 1)
    • Squat Clean (round 2)
    • Hang Power Clean (round 3)
    • Power Clean (round 4)

It was the best thing I have ever done. I pushed myself to the max.. it was so fun.

Competed in CrossFit Rampage's Christmas Throwdown on Saturday. Oh boy was it tough. But such a great time hanging out with everyone, meeting new people, and competing for my new gym. I ended up 14th overall, with the other girls in my gym finishing 15, 16, and 17 - talk about a sweep! My friend Sarabeth came up from CrossFit Tuscaloosa (ughhh i miss my old box sometimes) and won 1st place female! She's such a beast!

Here are the wods and how I did in each:

    WOD #1

    THE SNATCH

In the 1st minute you may perform as many Overhead Squats (135guys/95gals) as possible, each rep earns you 1 extra pound on your overall score. You do not have to do any squats, thats your choice. You may not perform any snatches during this minute towards your max. The only weight that can be loaded on the bar during the minute is 135/95. For the OHS, get the bar there any way you want.

In the following 8 minutes (1:00-9:00), find your 1rm Snatch

    (9 minute cap)

Score: 75# (failed at 85# 3 times - so frustrating)

    WOD # 2

    THE CHIPPER

Each athlete will have a station, guys will have a 45lb plate, ladies will have a 25lb plate.

20 x burpee plate jumps (burpee, then jump onto plate)
    30 x situps (no abmat)
    40 x hand release pushups
    50 x plate ground to overhead (45/25lb)
    70 x air squats

    (9 minute cap)

    Score: 7:46

    WOD# 3

    ROWING HELEN

    3 rounds:

    Row 500m
    21 kettlebell swings (24kg/16kg)
    12 pullups

    (12 minute cap)

Score: 2 Rds + 12 KB swings - only a couple of the girls finished in under 12 min. Actually most of the guys didn't either.

    WOD# 4

    FINAL FANTASY

Get as far as possible in 7 minutes

    30 double unders
    3 squat cleans (135/95)
    30 double unders
    6 squat cleans
    30 double unders
    9 squat cleans
    30 double unders
    12 squat cleans….

continue alternating between 30 double unders and squat cleans increasing by 3 reps.

You may power clean + front squat instead of squat clean.

Score: 12 Rds + 2 Double Unders (super happy with this result. 1) didn't know I could squat clean 95# and 2) my finish was good enough for 7th)

Just got back from Barnyard Throwdown in Ohatchee, AL. It was a team competition with teams of 3. Competed with a girl from CrossFit Tuscaloosa that just started in October and a guy form Huntsville, also his first competition. SOOO much fun. There were 35 teams - 24 Rx, 11 Scaled. It being Dayna's and Justin's first competition we went scaled and took 4th! So excited for both of them. Awesome teams of some serious competitors there and overall a blast.

Anyone going to Garage Games One in Woodstock, GA this coming Feb?

I just got back from watching my coach compete in the CrossfFit Indy North Greak Lakes Invitational. The WODs were pretty brutal! The second day started off with a 5K run which I think really threw in a curve ball. Semi finals were very intense.

    For Women:
    9-6-3

    Deadlifts 245lbs
    Wall Climbs
    Squat Clean 135lbs

I forget the weight for the men. It was awesome to watch! I definitely want to compete... in about a year haha :)

I just registered for my first crossfit competition - one of the garage games! I wasn't sure if I should do the beginner or scaled division. I went with beginner. I figure I'd rather have my first competition be with me scaled too much than not enough! It's a week from Saturday (Feb 11th). I'm nervous but excited!
