Thought I'd post this as I started having issues today and couldn't figure out what was causing it. ANYWAY, I've been buying the thinkThin bars as they are pretty decent on calories for the amount of protein you get. Well today I started having some gas issues and I wondered WHAT THE HECK DID I EAT? The only thing different than norm was the thinkThin bar I ate for breakfast. I did a google search and found this:

http://www.glutenfreefitness.com/gluten-free-sports-supplement-review-think-thin-tm-bars/

Which prompted me to do another search and I found this:

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/sugaralcohols.htm

So I've concluded it DEFINITELY is the thinkThin bars and I'll have to give them up or be uncomfortable again. Anyone else have another GF high protein/low cal bar they like that doesn't give you this problem?

How funny - i had another thread goign about this exact same thing - i'm steering clear from now on.. (despite them being SOOOOO yummy!)
  • I love LARA bars. They're basically just fruit and nuts and some spices (sometimes), so they are safe and sooo yummy and healthy!

Yeah, sugar alcohols do it to me too. Years ago when I did Atkins, I would get the sugar free candy. Oh my. SF Jelly Bellys were the worst. I definitely steer clear of sugar alcohols as much as possible - no need for more tummy issues!

I've had to give up protein bars since I haven't been able to find any that aren't safely gf and sans sugar alcohols. I've switched to just using protein powder. Max Muscle has one that is made in a clean facility, from my understanding.
  • TropicalKitty, try Lara bars! I had the Coconut Cream Pie flavor today, and it was to die for! Just dates, nuts, unsweetened coconut flakes and coconut oil. None of the Lara bars have artificial sugars, and only the type with chocolate chips (one or two flavors out of dozens available) have actual sugar - the rest are only sweetened with fruit, and taste soooo good!

Larabars are good, but I like KIND bars even more! Slightly less calories, and you can actually SEE the nuts/fruit/etc in whole form. So delicious.

Have you ladies tried Quest Protein Bars?

They just came out with this new all natural line. I've been eating the Chocolate Brownie protein bar, prior to this.

    They are really good!

I bet they are yummy! I can't eat them, though, because they have either soy protein or rice protein in them. I can't remember which, but I know it's one or the other, and I'm allergic to both. :(

I can't have the Lara Bars either, because of the nuts. I can have peanuts, so I think there is one flavour I can have, but I can't have almonds or walnuts. I just make my own trail mix of fruit, seeds, and peanuts that I can eat.

Purefit is good as a "meal" type of bar and Kind Apricot and Almonds are yummy for a "dessert"! (for those who can eat nuts)
