Bruises from running?

Am I the only one? If I do a longish run (anything over 6 miles) I get huge bruises on my calves. It looks like I've been hit by a softball. They don't hurt, but they look very unsightly. And I can't figure out why I'd get them. I'm not hitting anything, I'm not putting that much stress on my legs. It's very odd.

I have never noticed any kind of bruising from running at all. The only issue I have that is even remotely close would be with my toes/toe nails. Could it be something you get from riding that you only notice after your run?

I don't think so. It only happens after long runs. If I ran 3 miles every day, it doesn't happen. But every time I've gone longer than six, it does.

No idea. Maybe it's from the additional pounding of pavement?
Are you typically prone to bruising easily?

There are times when I notice random bruises on my arms and I always just assume I ran into something...lol..it happens! ha

Strange. The only time I've had bruises from running is when I got my ankles tangled in some downed branches.

Are you foam rolling? I had a calf injury and had a terrible bruise from it. I run in a minimalist shoe, which I've believed is the cause, calves really take a beating until well trained, you would think in 2500 miles I'd be well trained, apparently not. But what happens with calf injuries, is they develop scar tissue, which retears constantly when no worked out correctly. I had a bad calf injury and did a lot of reading up on it. Foam roll seems to be the best way to break down the scar tissue development.

I get them too, on my shins and only after increasing distance or intensity. The advice nurse says they are broken capillaries and I'm probably anemic and should take an iron supplement; my trainer says I need to stretch with a foam roller after every run. I'm starting both next week to see if it makes a difference.
