Things I don't understand

1. Why is it that the US can't be more like Canada and legalize gay marriage?
2. Why is it such a big deal if gay couples adopt or become pregnant? I always thought it was better to have two loving parents, no matter what their orientation was. Two loving moms, or two loving dads are better than a dysfunctional set of parents.
3. Why christians don't reach out to the gay community more, rather than condeming them. God loves everyone.
4. The false belief that being gay is a choice. I don't think it is a choice.
5. Why do people try to hurt gay people. "beating them straight" doesn't do anything but leave blood on their hands, and the guilt of ending a human life.
6. Why do so-called Christians condmen me for accepting and loving everyone, despite race, color, creed, or orientation? Isn't this what we're taught to do?

I just don't get it.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Just in short, the US will get there but it'll take time (hey, interracial marriage was finally legalized) - there's always a ridiculous battle.

As for adoption, I think it should be a big plus that same sex couples have to *plan* for children instead of just popping them out!

Christianity - well, religion in its entirety - is a whole different can of superstitious worms. It's just a flimsy crutch of "reason" for a lot of people and an absurd launchpad to expel hatred and ignorance..

Wow, I'm kind of grumpy this morning!

    1. the country was founded by puritanical hypocrites. It's also why you won't see poly marriages legalized anytime soon.

    2. The first half or so of the 20th century was all about fear and making people think that [whatever marginalized group] is the cause of all our problems. It takes a while to break through that.

There are still states in the south where the majority of people think that interracial marriages shouldn't be legal. I'm sure the predominant religion there is probably some form of Christianity, Baptist to be more precise. It's not super Christian to be racist either, and yet..

I am a Christian and I don't do any of the things you have mentioned. Some of my greatest friends are gays and atheists. I hate being generalized and I hate that some of my atheist friends make fun of Christians, but I do try to be different. I don't make a big deal. I realize why people are upset with Christians. It is the horrible reputation we live with because of those of us who do not live correctly. They have lost the POINT of the message. I love EVERYONE, not based on gender, orientation, or race. This is my purpose.

People are ignorant, people are intimidated by the unorthodox. People are people! The one thing I notice however, is often in rants about rights, while questioning things people often contradict themselves and their original point by bashing on their opposers. It is only when people learn to turn the other cheek and quite bashing that things will change. The hurt hurt and rather than hurt them more, we should love them. The whole thing seems counterproductive to me... hurt the hurt and bash the rest. Where is the love?

As a person being condemned, do you feel you have showed love to those who have condemned you?

As a person who is open minded, my mission is to help others open their minds and realize that people are people, souls, spirits despite preference. I am a person, a soul, a spirit despite my eating habits and my religion.

Forgive me if I make no sense, I am not good at expressing myself.

I thought you did a great job of expressing yourself.

I realize that not all Christians are hard-hearted or judgemental. I was talking about the ones who are, and not the ones who are not. It was never my intention to generalize anyone into one category, but to simply point out those who choose to use religion to fit their own agenda.

I do feel at times I have been condemned by other Christians, for my belief that all are created equal in the eyes of God. I don't feel I have been treated this way by all Christians.

    I agree with you whole-heartedly

I understand that! I feel like I have been condemned by them myself. I just ignore them, the "holier than thou" people.

People should be free to life how it suits them, as long as they are not endangering those around them. The only way for people to believe something is if they WANT to, you cannot force them.

Wouldn't it be so much easier if people just practiced "live and let live"? Then there wouldn't be anything to point out! :)

I am so glad to not be in the "holier than thou" crowd. I would miss out on meeting some brilliant people!

I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.
