I am not real good at math lol. MFP gives me 1198 for my BMR but every other website I've checked has given me about 1320. I'm only 5' and not looking for a huge deficit, however 1198 x the sedentary 1.2 (?) = 1437. This gives me LESS than 250 deficit to work with and I'm always hungry as it is...especially lately. Debating on using the BMR from the other 3 websites I checked and going from there.

Does anyone think this is a BAD idea? I try to run at least 2-3 days a week and this week I'm starting to add in more. I know this will add to my deficit but I don't want to screw this up.

The only thing that eating 1320 over 1198 will do, if you BMR is actually the lower number, is give you a smaller deficit and potentially lose more slowly. There are a couple of equations for determining your BMR, which is likely why you are getting a couple of different numbers. I would maybe try to stay between the two numbers if possible.

Thanks! I'm already only losing (and regaining) less than a lb, usually, so if I can lose a lb - or less - consistently (instead of regaining it), I'll be happy. lol

Oh and I found the formula online and did it myself using sedentary 1.2 calculation. It gave me 1324, I think.
  • I'm in the same situation. Just trying to listen to my body. If I'm hungry I guess I'll be eating more and going over and some days like yesterday I will be way down.

I use MFP maintenance, you could try to use this instead of calculating what it should be based on your BMR. What is the difference in numbers if you switch to maintenance?

MFP maintenance was around 1500 at sedentary. But these last couple weeks I've decided to work out at least 3 days a week from now on. This brings my maintenance up to 1620 which is what I have it set to now.
