I'll cross post this in the Pacific Northwest, Gluten Free and Seattle groups as well!
I will be leading a steady paced (12-14 mph on the flats) circa 28 mile ride on Dec 26 in Seattle - it is posted on the Cascade Bicycle Web Site although you do NOT need to be a Cascade member to ride. You are expected to be able to ride at the pace and fix your own flat (I am a terrible mechanic!) etc. - all this info is on their website - if you are not familiar with the ride requirements, please check out this
"Newcomer" Page from Cascade - http://www.cascade.org/EandR/rides_newcomer_instruction.cfm
WEB ONLY: North Seattle Gluten-Free Bakery Ramble
It's Boxing Day 2011! - time to try out the new biking toys and start to recover from the holiday feasts! This steady paced ride will visit 4 gluten free (GF) bakeries (only 2 will be open!) on Boxing Day to acquaint folks who might have interest in GF bakeries for themselves or another person. We'll leave from the Sporting Fields right below (East) of the CBC Office at Magnuson Park at 10:00 - please plan to be there by 0945 for forms signing, equipment check, safety briefing, and comparing the cool new stuff some may have received recently. We'll have cue sheets for those who want them - maps and cue sheets are on-line at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/858864. The ride leader will be riding steady on the flats and will go slower up the hills of which there are a few - no monsters however. The Steady pace will be used as the ride themes are social, exploration, and just getting out in the middle of winter!! Regroups will be called for as needed. Riders should bring equipment to fix flats along with the knowledge of how to use them. Our bakery stops are planned to be short but group demands might alter those somewhat. Bring some funds if you think you might want to purchase something. All the significant hills are in the first part of the ride so any extra poundage accumulated on the ride from any treats will be an advantage (or at least not such a detriment) on the return route. If demand for more gluten-free explorations are found, additional future routes can be set up in Seattle and southerly where such bakeries can be found!
